Oh no Wayne is Mr Fix-It, didn't you know? 😀 he gets things done by yelling at people, apparently.

You can transform a city by not building things.

Welcome to a global modern city that looks the same as it did ten years ago and where no one can afford to live or can get home after work.

Another poll, Brown now well out in front. Stick a fork in it, it's done. You don't arrest that kind of momentum in a local body postal-ballot.

The number of undecided tends to be large in those polls for some reason. Anything could happen. I have not sent mine yet. Maybe I'll just vote for mayor because I can't be bothered googling the council candidate list.

The Auckland Mayoral Race now has its own piss dossier scandal and.... well frankly at this point we deserve everything we get.

Great, a cranky, grumpy old man who wasn't too popular in Northland is now our mayor. Oh yay.

At least Efeso was transparent. The new Wellington Mayor who claimed throughout that they were an independent and that was backed up by and pushed heavily by the likes of stuff reporting. But then is promptly reported as a greens candidate after winning.

Luckily for Auckland Brown has a lot more respect for Collins than you do and is looking for a way for Collins to contribute.

Huge missed opportunity for Auckland. A youth worker mayor in a city where there's a north south divide and the south requires a lot more investment in all youth. There are people who know how to do that locally. That would have been a good thing.

It really could not have been worse.

We've got a mayor who is a) 76 years old, b) keeps referring to projects that aren't confirmed yet which doesn't inspire confidence (Where is the North Western Busway being built? Last I checked we aren't getting one) and wants to revert to lazy memes about a '$30b tram to the airport'.

Except you can't do that anymore once you're elected. You actually have to be honest and behave in a manner befitting of the office you've been elected to. If you want to rant about 'trams to the airport' and mischaracterise projects announced by Central Government, then stand for Central Government.

Collins would have at least made some attempt to be the Mayor for the whole city instead of rewarding small bits of it for having backwards and out-of-date viewpoints, but low-turnouts let you vote purely based on sloganeering and here we are. Frankly there's stuff all reason to have any optimism at all for this city, in terms of housing, congestion or Auckland actually being an interesting place to live.

Negative is right, although I did see Craig Lord had quite a bit of online support, but I guess that simply didn't translate into enough votes for him.
I did hear Brown wasn't particularly popular in Northland either.
Of course Luxon and are all over this as a victory for the right.

Dont get me wrong, Brown isnt the best there was on offer either.

Collins wanted to put bikes and pedestrians on the harbour bridge by blocking lanes, that is an instant no from me.

Collins did do good work during covid for his community and would be a good council member, but he wasnt mayor material for me.

One bright spot for bus commuters, Brown has apparently been reported multiple times saying he wants buses to get green lights always. I suspect that's practical about 10-20% of the time. It could make a significant difference without any significant inconvenience for other road users. Anyone who's sat in a bus at the front of the queue at the traffic lights has thought of that at one time or another : ).
