Armed conflict is always bloody awful. Those kids and any kids should never have to deal with such a thing. I hope they get through it okay.

Netanyahu attacked Iran to destroy the negotiations for removal of sanctions and the resumption of the accord and nuclear agreement between Iran and the United States.

Secondly and mainly, Netanyahu is in a tight spot with his corruption court case. He was able to postpone a few hearings using the Gaza war as an excuse. Those excuses began wearing thin. Recently he's postponed another with unspecified 'illness'. His next excuse is going to be the current war.

The nuclear issue is not new.

Rikkitic: Just because Israel didn't declare war on Assad doesn't mean they weren't involved in his removal.

As widely documented in Israeli newspapers it was assisting Al-Qaeda's Syrian branch with medical and resupply. As you might guess that was not popular with many people in Israel.

Not sure how accurate this is, but a look at what might happen to Aotearoa in the event of a full-on nuclear war.

Sorry, but I find your post inappropriate for this thread.

People are dying in Israel and Iran, and as one poster rightfully stated earlier here, those outside of those two states in the region are being impacted. Let alone how that may get worse should the US start firing. How Aotearoa would fare in all all out nuclear war, which has never happened due to the deterrent nature, belongs in another thread, respecting those that are in the Middle East and nearby regions.

Apologies, I thought it was relevant to the current situation between the two countries. @freitasm please delete if you feel it's applicable.

Both you and @tdgeek have valid views. People need to be aware of the impact of this war and possible outcomes. Keep the focus on the actual actions for this thread is important.

I don't see a reason to remove the link.

If the Iran Government survives then that is a win for them in my opinion, this clearly was a Government toppling attempt with Nuclear sites as secondary. Israel is now begging for the US to use the bunker buster.

I agree. Personally I doubt Trump will fire anything. The aftermath will be huge across the region as Iran and its evil allies go after 40,000 US troops in the region affecting the nations they are stationed in. Bad bad idea. Iran has had agreements before (yes, I know their adherence was and is dodgy). They repeatedly say they want enrichment just for energy. Fine, do that, but leave IAEA free reign to visit anywhere in Iran for sanity checking. Their country and leaders are spared. That will aggravate Netanyahu, so another win there. Peace will be resumed, the key win for Trump and everyone in the Middle East. Iran wont talk unless Israel stops firing, so Trump can make that happen, takes credit (even though he no doubt gave Netanyahu the green light)

Trump is unpredictable, but I see enough wins for him, and US citizens/voters to sway him away from yet another Middle East war, which he campaigned on

Am I wrong?? Probably, but I see some moves that can be made to make everyone happy, bar Netanyahu. Media wise they see very low chances for mediation and some form of resolution, but Trump is transactional, my scenario fits with that

That has never caused Trump any problem in the past. Trump owns MAGA end of story. It surprises me that commentators spend any time on that.
