It has thats correct. Its been heading in that direction for a long time. Irregardless of who won 2017 it kept rising. As it did with Key as it did with Clarke.

It depends if you mean that prices kept rising since 2017 because of Labour, or whether it will have risen anyway.

Well, it's not really relevant if they were rising, Labour spent 9 years complaining about the cost of housing and it's last term in opposition saying they had a plan to fix it.

They didn't fix it, the situation got significantly worse.

Labour changing the RBNZ's mandate to consider employment has been a big factor in interest rates staying lower than they should have had, which doesn't really work when you run off a bunch of cheap money to avert an economic crisis. "Prices were rising anyway" is a pretty ambitious exercise in understatement given that they increased by about 30% in a single 18 month period.

And remember, Labour had nine years to come up with workable solutions for housing, and they spent it making fantastical claims and then attacking National for not executing them. Unless we're just abandoning the idea of political accountability when it becomes politically inconvenient.

Significantly is an understatement, the plan to fix it never eventuated and instead it got worse.. MUCH WORSE

While the below will probably be bagged, many things have changed. So its not quite the zero implementations thats often mentioned here

Ah yes, the success of the Winter Energy payment. Taking money from working age Kiwis going backwards trying to save house deposits and giving it to people who get a pension without any semblance of means-testing at all.

Real 'workers of the world unite' stuff there.

A bunch of low-level stuff doesn't change the fact that they had key election platforms and abandoned almost all of them bar the foreign buyer ban, which was significantly different to what they campaigned on. It's a useful list for tooting your own horn but they're not exactly going to be crowing about what they haven't done.

Jeez, $338,000. If they were being priced realistically today most properties wouldn't be worth much more than their 2008 value.

I can't find it now, but I recall some analysis done on the apprenticeship scheme basically called it a fundamental fail due to the fact there was little or no material increase in the number of people who took up apprenticeships.

Similar to the student loan thing in their first term.

Heh, I read that and it looks like it was written by a senior staffer within the Labour marketing department. There is almost no balance, just largely a 'it's not her fault leave poor Jacinda alone!'

Here's a fourth, apparently unconscionable reason: Maybe they're just actually not doing that well at the moment?

I wanted to say something like this, but this says it better.

When I lived in the South of France, there was a flock of geese that shared the small mountain village with me. They would all gang up on me as I walked past, honking insults and aggressively jabbing with their beaks. But as soon as I turned around, they would all run off screeching and flapping their wings in panic. When I resumed walking, they would regroup and come after me again. Some of the posters on this thread remind me of those geese. Honking and jabbing with their beaks as the target moves on.

The article was about vitriol, not reasoned criticism. Whether they are doing well or not has nothing to do with the kind of aggression being levelled at Jacinda Ardern. There is no excuse for that. Fortunately that kind of behaviour is not tolerated here, though there certainly is an element of some individuals gleefully sticking the knife in. It is interesting to note how they are all piling on. Just like geese.

I totally KNEW this was coming. I nearly wrote a note under my keyboard 2 days ago to prove I knew it was coming.

How about you actually contribute in some way to the conversation instead of insulting those who are discussing the issues, by explaining which particular comments you disagree with and some evidence why those claims are incorrect?

Be specific, the rest of us are being so.

So no to contributing the conversation instead of being insulting then I guess.

I haven't got time right now. I'll come back to it later. What I will say is that those who already don't like 'progressive' governments will gladly use any stick they can find to beat one with. I wonder what the dialogue would be like if National got in and produced exactly the same kinds of failures (which of course it would).
