I get your point but I think you are wrong. It is unprofessional to conclude that someone is mentally ill on the basis of public statements and actions, but illness can be properly ruled out on the same basis. If Trump is seen not doing something that is necessary to make the diagnosis, then you can safely say he doesn't fit that particular profile. It is like technical fault-finding. Only one thing causes the problem, but many things can be ruled out.  

 

 

 

 

Wrong, psychological conditions are complex a diagnosis cannot be made watching TV or reading press releases. I had a long discussion with my son( a Psychologist) about this and he agrees. These golf making these diagnoses  are grand standing. A diagnosis is done over several in depth sessions with the individual over a period of time with followup review to confirm etc.

I think it is time to rename his news conference "Beat the Press". I watched his news conference this morning and am still trying to work out just exactly what he was trying to say.

 

I think he was trying to say he is greater than God, all of those around him are just beautiful people and everybody else deserve no more than to be treated with contempt. He is an embarrassing wannabe world leader.

He is running the White House as he runs his business, its not a mental health issue. His manner, attitude, aggression, is normal for him and its normal for many others. His issue is that he does not feel the need to give the position and the responsibility the respect it deserves. Thats happens to be his attitude. Its not appropriate but its not abnormal either

It is abnormal for a president to act in this manner.

 

The more he attacks the press the more they will dig up truths.

The good doctor is not saying what, if anything, is wrong with Trump (other than him being a dickhead). He is not making a diagnosis. He is simply ruling out a diagnosis on the basis of Trump's public statements and behaviour. 

 

Look at it this way: A plane crashes. On the way down, the pilot can be seen to be making desperate manoeuvres to regain control. An aviation expert says, I don't know what went wrong, but I can rule out pilot suicide.

 

If Trump does and says things that someone suffering from pathological narcissism would never do or say, then you can safely conclude that whatever may be wrong with him, it isn't that. You don't need to do a full diagnosis of someone to rule something out. You do need a full diagnosis to rule something in, but that is not what is happening here.

There are several conditions in which this is not the case. Often ruling something out is just as difficult. Sociopaths, for example, will often fake empathy etc.

 

EDIT: You argument is valid for many conditions, but not all. We can be sure Trump doesn't have Tourette Syndrome... although...

It is abnormal for a president to act in this manner.

If he isnt mentally impaired, his attitudes are his attitudes. Yes, you expect more, but we saw him on the campaign trail, its not abnormal for him, and he was voted in.

That was painful to read.

I'd suggest a drinking game, when Trump says certain phrases, but you'd be comatose within 5 minutes.

Starting badly, he lied about his poll numbers. His poll numbers from the latest Gallup poll is 42%, not 55%.

a new Rasmussen poll just came out just a very short while ago, and it has our approval rating at 55 percent and going up.
