Apparently, we have TACO. No word on whether Iran agrees yet though.

It says it all in the headline, "Donald Trump agrees to two-week ceasefire in Iran hours before deadline"

He agrees. No word from the other side.

"US President Donald Trump has agreed to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks, subject to the Strait of Hormuz opening"

Ah... So he wants to suspend bombing, subject to the strait being open, the same strait that was open until he started the bombing.

The MAGA logic is incredible. The best logic.

Yeah, and Iran have already rejected a temporary ceasefire proposal that obliged them to open the Strait, so I am not holding my breath for them to agree to this either.

Sky News UK reported that each ship will be required to pay US$2M with half going to Iran and half to Oman.

With all the other conditions eg sanctions lifted, what has the US actually achieved in all this?

If this is to be the final settlement(or close to it), then compared to prewar, this is a huge backward step and this wouldn't include the costs the world has incurred as a result.

Because Trump is an idiot, there is no change for good, only stupid results. Everything he touches gets worse.

Who's to say Trump won't change his mind on a whim and return to his intention to blow them up?

I'll go out on a limb and suggest that things may change somewhat on Saturday afternoon our time, by which time four travelers will have have hopefully safely returned from space.

The optics of the US military acting on Trump's orders to resume bombing Iran sometime in the next three days, while an emergency is playing out in space, would be interesting.

So how long until the cease fire collapses? A day? an Hour? There isn't exactly a good record for this kind of thing.

Israel has continued to attack and deprive Gaza under the existing ceasefire. I'd be surprised if Israel keeps to this new ceasefire. It will be up to the United States to restrain Israel. The United States has shown no backbone for that yet.

Agree with everyone above. All three main involved are bad actors, and the US and Israel started this out of nowhere even though everyone involved in the nuclear talks already agreed that a final agreement was very close. Iran has zero reason to believe that the US and Israel will abide by the terms of this temporary ceasefire; Trump changes his mind mid-sentence so who knows whether he'll decide he doesn't like one of the 10 things from Iran's proposal that he apparently agreed to; Netanyahu might just give it a day or two and the YOLO it again; and Iran will use the break to dig out some of its buried missiles and launchers the US and Israel either didn't totally destroy or simply don't know about because they were buried precisely to be reserves.

And the oil shocks are still going to take months to work through even if traffic resumes at full pace right now so Trump might be frustrated that everything hasn't immediately gone back to normal now that he has won the war and got everything he ever wanted out of it.

Yeah, I remain skeptical.

Which calculates to about $1 per barrel.

If we have a Zerg Rush of hundreds of tankers, triple digits a day then I suppose it's real.

Trump/GOP needs the DOW to recover and futures on oil to plummet before next round.
Epstein will be out of news for a good while.

Maybe Gulf countries are exercising their economic power as they drive a lot of investment in USA.
OpenAi, Anthropic, Nvidia, especially Elon Musk and his Spacex/Xai/X IPO need venture capital flowing freely.

Everyone needs to rearm, dig out tunnels and such, so it may take a while.

From the Guardian
On that news, US crude futures fell around 9% to $103 a barrel, S+P 500 futures leapt 1.6% and the US dollar fell broadly.

Futures pointed to broad gains for Asia’s stock markets, and 10-year US Treasury futures jumped about 15 ticks.

Trump will have to break it as the worlds media is condemning the whole thing as a huge backward step. His own Republicans arent happy.

I’m hopeful. There’s been enough pain spread around that it might be everyone wants it over and are pressuring for it to be over- even that malignant narcissist Trump now that he surely must hear the rumblings of the 25th and can even he ignore the masses of marching Americans? I suppose he can but maybe the rest of his proud boy and girl supporters are getting nervous. War crimes etc might be a worry. Though I can see Hegseth happily turning a non-white country to rubble.

Supposedly there is still going to be a toll they charge on ships using the route. He clearly knew he had bitten off more than he could chew when he started this.  The problem is what is this muppet going to do next as he seems to have a very short attention span and loves all the attention and publicity he gets.

Due to oil tankers travelling at the speed of a bicycle it is going to take months for fuel production to get back to more normal levels again. It is a good lesson that NZ must be more self sufficient at all levels because history has proven that crazy people can end up with a lot of power.
