According to Hegseth, the pilot who was rescued was just like Jesus.

I am not sure which gospel it was that said that Jesus rode into Jerusalem raining death and destruction from above, I think it was the Gospel according to St Bollocks.

It seems the rescue actually was closer to the failed Jimmy Carter hostage rescue mission in 1980.

How much to rescue one guy?

Trump threatens to jail journalist who broke story of US rescue mission in Iran

How about a quarter of a billion dollars.

Don't worry, they can afford that by cancelling more health care.

These people are about as far away from what Jesus taught as possible. It sickens me they pretend to be followers.

gzt: Israel has continued to attack and deprive Gaza under the existing ceasefire. I'd be surprised if Israel keeps to this new ceasefire. It will be up to the United States to restrain Israel. The United States has shown no backbone for that yet.

No backbone, but even if there was some backbone the Israelis would do as they pleased. They don't give a %$#k about anyone else, even less than the USA.

IMO the real fly in the ointment is the Israelis so far as the ceasefire goes

Obviously Christians have varied beliefs. Hegseth, is obviously a believer in Christian nationalism

The "Just war theory" developed centuries after the New Testament, largely because early Christians struggled to reconcile Jesus’ teachings with fighting wars. In partiuclar the Sermon on the Mount, turning the other cheek, loving enemies, and rejecting the sword.

In a nutshell "Just war theory" is "f__k it, it's too hard to obey Jesus"

Religious symbolism shouldn’t be used casually in political messaging. Of course, Trump famously used a Bible as a prop following the killing of George Floyd. Donald Trump walked from the White House a Church. He then held up a Bible and posed for photos outside the church.

Back to Hegseth, The Resurrection of Jesus is the single most important event in history, the moment God defeats death and sin.

Romans 6:9: “Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.”

Equating a military the Resurrection feels like reducing a divine miracle to a political metaphor.

The Good Friday to burial to Easter Sunday sequence is sacred liturgy. Hegseth
is using holy imagery for propaganda.

The New Testament repeatedly warns against presuming to speak for God in matters of war or national power. Also Jesus explicitly rejects violence as a means of advancing God’s purposes

Matthew 7:21–23
Jesus warns that many will claim to act in God’s name but are not doing God’s will.

Acts 5:38–39
Gamaliel warns against presuming to know which human causes God supports

Christianity without Christ is a very old pattern.
How would you have the inquisitions, stoning, torture of heretics etc with Jesus?

The real fly in the ointment is that Trump lies all day every day and agreed to his own plan
Trump is not paying reparations, agree to IRGC toll gate with limited passage,
vacating USA bases in Arabia and other things in Iranian plan.

Iran's IRGC agreed to their own plan naturally.

It will all fall apart when these opposite realities clash even without Israel.

More a chance for Trump to play the market rug-pulls.

Unless 100's tankers and freighters move through a day, the oil and LNG supply problems will continue.
Something like 800 ships are trapped.
Iran seems to be continuing its limited to friend's toll gate and total control of strait.

Attacks on Gulf states seem to be continuing?

Possibly only common point is that USA needs to rearm and replenish.
IRGC need to dig out more stored weapons and buy more with its newfound greater income.
On that its a win win. :-)

It looks like the Israelis are running true to form as I predicted. They're ignoring the ceasefire. No need to wait for the opposite realities  to clash.

Israel is a rogue nation, conducting its affairs in defiance of international law and convention.

It  drops cluster munitions on the land of other nations, ignores UN directives, bombs UN peacekeepers, murders journalists, conducts kidnappings and murders abroad, uses foreign passports from friendly countries for dirty jobs, practices two tier justice against its 'undesirable' citizens and has imprisoned the millions of people in Gaza in terrible conditions for decades. This could be added to but I'm busy so I'll stop the list there.

Why would Israel start acting like a moral country now?

Iran has closed the strait due to ceasefire violations in Lebanon:

In other words - the strait will remain closed if Israel continues to fire on Lebanon

UK says Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon during ceasefire are wring:

"Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has told ITV News' Talking Politics podcast that Israel is "wrong" to continue its strikes on Lebanon amid a ceasefire with Iran, saying it "should stop" as a "matter of principle"

From Times Radio - this made me laugh.

"But Hegseth saying they won, that's sort of like me in a bar fight laying in a pool of my own blood looking up at the person who battered me and saying I won because I always use my face to block punches."

The Guardian - Why colluding with King Donald’s insanity is the only game in town

09 April 2026

The Madness of King Donald.

Unless you’ve spent most of the last few years on a silent retreat, it can’t have escaped you that the American president is both not that bright and borderline sociopathic *. A lethal combination.  ...

But what you may have missed is that the madness is contagious. It also affects many of those who come in contact with him. Trying to deal with the madness makes them mad too, as they try to behave as if things that are most definitely not normal are all quite usual. All in a day’s work.

And nowhere has this been more in evidence than with the two-week ceasefire. A ceasefire in which no one is able to agree on what precisely - if anything - had been negotiated and which Israel has taken to mean it can continue to bomb Lebanon. ...

So the madness goes on and on. A sickness filtering ever further down the system. No one is immune. Merely to engage with Trump - be it to defend him or to take him on - puts your sanity at risk.

And if you think you’ve somehow escaped, then you probably haven’t thought this one through. We are living in a world increasingly of Trump’s making. And it isn’t going to end well.

* An understatement. The Don is not just "borderline sociopathic" - he has full-blown Narcissism, a severe personality disorder straight out of the psychiatric text book - plus dementia  😶
