CNN obtains "exclusive intelligence" claiming Iran air defense replenishment and completely fails to note Israel is 100% for certain restocking during the same period:

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/11/politics/us-intelligence-iran-china-weapons

The kind of reporting that successfully took the American public into the Iraq War. A number of print media publications later apologized to the American public for editorial decisions and organizational failures in the Iraq War period. Many individual reporters also apologized to the American public.

CNN is repeating the same mistakes, once again.

Paramount Skydance (Ellison family, Trump supporters) are about to finalise the acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery. CNN is just another Trump outlet now.

I’m sure Netanyahu is paying attention to Starmer /s

I think such condemnations are as much for domestic consumption as attempting to rein in Israeli aggression.

Gurezaemon:

From Times Radio - this made me laugh.

"But Hegseth saying they won, that's sort of like me in a bar fight laying in a pool of my own blood looking up at the person who battered me and saying I won because I always use my face to block punches."

I know this will sound like posturing and "woke", but wars create short-term illusions of victory while worsening long-term instability.

I think the only winners are prediction markets, such as Polymarket, betters with insiders' knowledge, and Defense war contractors.

Iran may now be able to extort "Strait of Hormuz" fees, at the cost of billions in military equipment, and loss of thousands of people and, in Iran, $140 billion in destruction.

Granted I'm not shedding a tear for the Iran's leadership decapitation, dozens of commanders, 30 generals, and the Supreme Leader deaths.

Iran's population is currently younger than most developed nations. Iran’s youth are widely reported as dissatisfied with the status quo.

The world would likely have been better if 86 year old Supreme Leader died a natural death, as there may have been a natural overthrow from Iran's dissatisfied youth.

Now we have rally‑around‑the‑flag nationalism triggered by external attack.

Israel not a winner, as it another cycles of retaliation, escalation, and blowback: "They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind"

Totally plausible, though:

  • They are known allies
  • China takes the majority of Iran's oil exports and clearly wants that to continue
  • The article states they are MANPADS weapons, not top end systems which cost tens or hundreds of millions each and require months if not years of training

Using a MANPADS doesn't take much training. They're cheap and simple by design.

I'm sure you'll all be as shocked as I was to hear that the US and Iran have walked away from the talks.

After several short questions, Vance has ended the news conference.

He says the US delegation will be leaving Pakistan.

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also released a statement after the talks concluded, indicating they, too, had come into the talks with an open mind but said the US must refrain "from excessive demands and unlawful requests" along with accepting "Iran's legitimate rights and interests".

But I guess that's OK because Trump said he didn't care one way or the other this morning so yay!

We are in very sad and dangerous times when International Law and the United Nations are being bypassed and we are left with the Pope being the voice of humanity.

If we want International Law to apply and United Nations to have clout we have to make it so. Laws don't enforce themselves.

It couldn't possibly be that the US wouldn't accept the Iranian terms. Gotta make it seem the Irainians are the bad guys.

What ever happened to give and take. With Trump it is all take take take.

Yes it's all perfectly plausible and may be true or false or kind of maybe possibly true but not really at all. General Colin Powell regretted providing similar 'intelligence':

Both CNN and Fox are doing the exact thing many of their contributors later apologized for or 'regretted' after the Iraq War. Re-repeated 'intelligence' and no critical assessment or reporting.

I will acknowledge a Fox article I viewed one sentence acknowledging many of the claims made about 'sanctions' were in fact just a long list of things the U.S alone unilaterally says Iran is not allowed to do. Restocking weapons systems is just one of those things while the airfreight express to US-Israel military and assets in the region continues.

Same thing different war even some of the same people supporting this new one.

The US rolled up with a hearse,
Which made Iran mutter a curse.
They talked for a bit,
Declared each other unfit,
Really, could it get much more worse?

So who does do the enforcing? China? India? USA? (god forbid!) In these times Europe may seem like a relative sweet voice of reason but they don't exactly have a great track record either. Moral authority won't do it. The big sticks belong to America and Russia so the threat of violence won't do it either. Trump has made clear that shame won't do it. How do you propose to manage?
