Still not seeing any cuts in my tax, yet.
At the end they will be doing less, and still not delivering tax cuts. But delivering benefits for the rich.
Got it.
The interesting thing I've heard yesterday and is in the article today is this: "Unemployment is set to rise from 3.6% in 2023 to 4.5% next year and 5.2% in 2025."
So, under National's watch, then?

And inflation dropping end of next year, no doubt under their watch. Its quite a farce disregarding the global effects that have occured in the last few years, and the good number of metrics that showed we did well

Was it a budget? Doesn't seem to be. Its just the same campaign slogans and bagging before the election and post election, unsure how that makes it a budget

Were you expecting tax cuts effective of the 20th of the month?

I see it as evidence the previous government actually did stuff.
Also:
The Finance Minister said she had asked ministers to identify other fiscal cliffs in their portfolios which may come under the $50 million threshold. One example she gave was the funding for period products in schools, originally funded at $8.1 million per years, which ends in 2024/25.
They're just on a speedrun to piss off the most people as possible.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
Yep. NZ Herald had a piece the other day, paywalled I recall. These fiscal holes are not new. There were 150 odd located in 2017. And some now. The commentary in the article was there wasn't a lot to see (my wording) in both. The "holes" are just time limited funding as compared to baseline (permanent) They are not secret nor hidden. The new Government can see exactly where baseline and time limited finding is, so there are actually no holes at all. Perhaps unless "someone" missed it. The new Govt can assess all funding, time limited included, and decide what they will include, or not. In my view, this lack of understanding, combined with the over zealous need to buy votes with tax cuts, has backed the new Govt into a corner. The Tax Cut Policy will not be delivered. But the tax cust will be. The overruns will be borrowing and further cuts. Tax cuts are not a one off, they live forever (assuming no tax increases)
They just seem to be stumbling from one bad press headline to the next. Perhaps the break will do them good, come back focussed to get on with the job and actually start delivering for the country.

The way they sold it (or at least my interpretation) was "this will happen sooner rather than later" as it sounded like their #1, top-shelf, grade A priority.
There is a theory.
Its not a fiscal hole, its just 'quantum foam', its always there, and not there depending on where and when you look.
Energy is after all indirectly Money ( Energy --> work that can generate Money).
The Money may be there and then not there.
That’s where things become counterintuitive. It turns out that nothing isn’t nothing.

Nicola Willis' may have a discovery worthy of a Nobel Prize, if she can prove this to Six Sigma.

What gets me is the sheer pettiness of this stuff. It is just peanuts and small change that will have no effect at all on the finances of the country, but will have enormous consequences for those affected.

Wow to give that as an example.

Suppose trickle down economics says some billionaire will donate their favorite school.
Problem solved.
If not we need to lower taxes to encourage more billionaires so there is enough for every school in the land.
Meanwhile in Australia which we might poke a lot of borax at over stuff.

Bomber makes a few good points here. Still waiting to see how Labour left the books in such "terrible" shape (apparently).
PS: where's my tax cut you promised, Luxon? You made it sound like nothing else mattered, apart from falling over yourself to give (some) people tax cuts. Maybe I'm not rich enough?

Oh possibly bad unclear sarcasm and grammar on my part.
Australia is doing the right thing.
We seem to be planning to go backwards.
If new Government is listing this as an example of potential cuts they should be looking for.
Cuts would be bad.
I'm just flabbergasted, and a bit lost for words that would become
a 'golden example' of program ripe for cutting.
So cuts BAD is my position for this.
