To their credit, it was Ms Tana that dragged out the process, not necessarily the Greens. They booted her from the party, that ought to be enough to get her booted from parliament to begin with, but thats not the law. She then defended and delayed as much as possible to continue to milk the tax payer cow as much as she could forcing their hand.

Seems the Greens have some internal rules (mandate / constitution?) that has to be adhered to in these sort of circumstances, which they have done.

So long as she isn't entitled now to ex-mp perks, she will vanish in 1 to 2 news cycles.

Not from what I can tell:

https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/07/29/darleen-tana-200-green-delegates-to-vote-on-mps-future-in-weeks/

Green Party members have discussed using the waka-jumping legislation at a meeting in Christchurch this weekend. Speaking to media, Swarbrick said party members were "relieved" that there was now a process to come to a final decision.

"Our membership are supportive of a deliberative and participatory process to come to making a decision," she said in a media conference.

"It's probably one of the most Green Party things in the world, in which we have set up a process, in which you make a decision, in which our membership has been brought along for the ride in terms of how we go about setting up that process in the first place."

Sounds like they decided to go down this route, as opposed to some pre-existing rule or pre-existing dispute resolution proces.

They are entirely responsible for this taking as long as it had after she decided to resign.

For a party that tries to position itself as the ethical and "nice" Party of Principle, they have had a rough ride recently. Aside from the attempted coup against James Shaw, for such a small caucus they have had Elizabeth Kerekere (bullying), Golriz Ghahraman (theft), Darleen Tana (migrant exploitation) and whatnot.

Not to mention having to compromise their principles and turn to Waka Jumping legislation to oust Dana, after Green leader (Saint) Rod Donald had railed against the same law as an "affront to democracy" that put us on a par with Zimbabwe and "the most draconian, obnoxious, anti-democratic, insulting legislation every inflicted on this Parliament".

If this continues, I'm going to have to increase my popcorn budget.

Greens are a young party that has not had so much of the bitter experience of the realities that other parties have.

Now they get a lot of lessons all at once.

People are interesting and some can be more interesting than others.
Just because they talk the talk does not mean they are not something else behind that mask.

Supporting your cause does not make a person an angel in all aspects of life who can never do wrong.
Absolute purity, may also be an absolute obstacle to progress of the cause and just a cover for faults.

Like facing up to reality of Earths limited ecosystem to support us.

There is facing up to reality of the human condition.

The fact that your people are 'people' and you will have a % with serious faults.
For positions of great responsibility you need to have a vetting system, and means to take quick action.
