I'll re post, my post in the Trump thread

From what Ive seen in the media, the Supreme Leader was in a bunker, avoiding assassination, could not be contacted by his underlings. So a meeting never occured. Probably now used as a means to attack, rather than a means to discuss. If Trump was the peacemaker, hates wars, its understandable that Khomeini wasnt contactable, so lets let that play out. Tell Netanyahu to hold fire, get the topmost meeting in a few days, nothing to lose. But no, Trump and Netanyahu want the trigger finger and regime change, pure and simple.

Also, if the nuclear threat was such a huge issue, then dont attack Iran and kill Iranians and Israelis. Trump can tell Iran, no nukes, no enrichment, if we cannot agree, B2's are on the way to destroy your nuclear infrastaructure. Thats because we dont want war and citizen collateral damage, but we will take out those sites if you dont. Thats todays news, and importantly, intentionally did the US/Israels best to avoid a settlement, as the desire is solely regime change. The result is we have 9 days of lives, etc being lost, when these 3 strikes could have happened 9 days ago, if no deal was in the offing.

IMHO the key is Trumps East Wing presser. It could have been, we dont want war, you dont dismantle the nukes, so we did. Lets talk. Instead its threats. There is a saving face situation here, especially with old and established cultures, such as The Middle East and Asia. Allow for that, tread lightly, give them an out. Trump hasn't, he's given an ultimatum, so Iran may well hunker down and fire till the last bullet has been fired, to everyones detriment. Iran citizens, Israeli citizens,  US troops, and the citizens in the region near to US bases.

The alternative Trump presented to Iran was "unconditional surrender". It means dropping arms and allowing foreign troops into Iran to take possession of the country. Iran was never going to choose that in one million years.

Watching CNN right now, apparently, Iran has moved the uranium elsewhere. Risk is, even more need fora nuclear deterrent. Who Knows, Russia, an ally, may covertly help that out

They would have done that weeks ago for anything that was ready. Trump has screwed this thing up completely. There was a good deal. It was working. But Obama made it, and Obama is black and said a mean thing about Trump, and so Trump had to break it. And here we are.

I mean yes, neither Iran nor Israel are good guys either. But it was under control.

luckily got 2 of them.

the beneficiary of oil demand (due to low supply) is Russia and USA. they have plenty of oil that the West has pledged not to buy.

but what happens is there are eastern countries (I think Turkey, India, China) that will still happily buy Russian oil, and I have no doubt it somehow gets into your car here.

the more expensive the middle east oil, the more Russian oil will be bought.

re USA, USA oil production is much more costly that middle eastern oil production. when price of oil goes up, USA oil profits goes up exponentially.

Well this has been a fun evening. I've had a few mates watching the fireworks from their balconies in Doha.

The rumours there is that the base was emptied out yesterday.

Commentary is that the base was emptied out days ago, and that the Iran retaliation was designed to make a point, but not to escalate. Whether Trump can see that and let it go, or react, who knows.

So Trumps announcement after the Iran attack at the Qatar base is "very weak"    FFS, let it go, let it de escalate

Then he thanks Iran for advance notice and he will ask Israel to seek peace in the region. That's a good thing, but for God sake "very weak"???

Tomorrow, 19 kids from Epsom Girls Grammar are taking their once-in-a-lifetime epic Art/Classics trip to London, Paris, Rome, Florence and Naples via Dubai. It would be so very peak Trump to find that gets cancelled because he can't let it go and is waving his d*** around causing airspace all across the middle east to be closed again.

Yeah. As I see it, and from an outside in perspective, Iran is heavily weakened. Trump should have stayed quiet, that's helpful. They all continue to hate each other, but its quiet, thats helpful. Has Iran has rhetoric also? yes, but its a rogue state, it needs to save face. It attacked a facility that was empty so it saved face, and didnt escalate the issues.

Now let Israel stop firing, Iran will then stop firing. Then, they still hate each other but the skies are quiet. Later, consider talks

Next step is removing nukes from Iran, well according to Trump its all obliterated...   So no issue there...  Lets see if Trump can tell Netanyahu to stand down. Hard to know, as Netanyahu has played Trump just as Putin did. Showers him with adoration, allowing Trump to give in to Israel. Classic narcissism

Things appear to be winding down,... for now

Apparently there is an agreed cease fire between Iran and Israel soon,  Oil prices have slumped 10% since yesterday,  now under 70USD/bbl

The sea is full of sharks. Any prospect of an opportunistic neighbour thinking this might be an ideal opportunity to grab a few juicy Iranian prizes?
