gzt: Iraq suffered 20 years of civil strife and chaos. Syria endured a similar period with Al-Qaeda. It looks like America wants to start a similar process in Iran. With Kash Patel firing Iran specialists it's pretty obvious Trump's planning for this war has been minimal or non-existent.

Trump couldn't plan his next toilet visit.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

This terrifies me. If people really are thinking like this they could easily decide it is god's will to go nuclear. It really is the end of days.

AFAIUI, no individual commander can dire anything off.

Every nuclear device is protected with codes and requires top down authorisation before it is activated.

So some nutter has to convince Trump that nuking Iran won't affect his real estate portfolio and we're away.

Bad day in shipping.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial route through which about 20 % of the world’s oil and LNG travels by sea. Maritime insurers are canceling or raising war‑risk coverage, which makes voyages much more expensive.

The total world-wide cost of this war is going to be bad.

New Zealand imports a significant portion of its refined fuel and LNG for electricity and heating. Imported consumer goods will likely more expensive and delayed.

All because Trump and Hegseth couldn't wait for a slippery floor to take out the 86 year old Ayatollah.

But hey, then Hegseth couldn't have said "silent death from below." He spent all night on that catchphrase.

Planning for drone defense, seems to have been like Putin's 3 day SMO.
But Trump don't need no allies, so learning from Ukraine since he put Hegseth in place not a thing.

Maybe Iran knows where these 'precious' are.

Though at the core.
Evangelicals have been spending years worshiping him and telling Trump he is chosen of God.
The richest wealth church preachers with influence laying hands no him as the chosen one.
Strict part of Catholic Church, and Mormons etc seem in USA to be quite ok with him, Pope excepted.

You might want to fact check some things.

While there seems to be strong support for Trump among evangelicals I doubt their support for Trump is universal.

Several Catholic church leaders in the US have been outspoken in their opposition to Trumps policies. There's no doubt there will be Catholic supporters however support is a long long way from being widespread. As for the Mormans, there's been a fair amount of disquieting comments from many Mormans about Trump. I don't think you could say either group was quite OK with Trump.

gzt: Rubio says Israel's strike plan triggered US attack on Iran:

"We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action. We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn't preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties," Rubio told reporters."

Tail wagging the dog.

The Zionists have a lot to answer for since 1948. Before then Jews and Arabs coexisted peacefully in the Palestine/Gaza area accepting each others beliefs.

The fundamentalist christian right is no better than the fundamentalist muslim right. Basically any fundamentalist religious sect.

Anyone who is utterly convinced their vision of eutopia is correct.  Anyone completely captured by an ideology and prepared to impose it on others.  With the possible exception of pacifism, it doesn't matter what the underlying ideology is.

And don't forget the Episcopalians - the minister who preached at his inauguration told him a bunch of things to his face that he hated, like show mercy etc.

Right. Kuwaiti F18 shot down three US F15.

1. The Kuwaiti pilot is a hell of a pilot
2. Suspicion is US planes had transponder off

My suspicion is Kuwaiti tried to raise them but US pilots were "America. Fark, yeah. We don't have to answer to anyone" and the Kuwaiti pilot was "Farkyeah. I have no idea if you are good or bad so fark you"

It's a bit of a stretch to call a modern warship an "unarmed ship"... And it's not as if there is deckloads of space on a submarine in order to pick up extra personnel. The PBS article does a much better job of explaining the events without the added emotion.

The peace protocol of the naval exercise with India required carrying only ammunition required for the exercise:

https://www.theweek.in/news/middle-east/2026/03/05/indias-intelligence-role-in-irans-warship-iris-dena-analyst-raises-doubts.html

USA knew this protocol because it originally planned to participate. Australia did participate in the exercise. Australia is a very close US ally.
