Nah its not just NZF. 
ACT and National have gained substantial disaffected and antis.
Those that do not like seeing someone else get a home insulation grant.
Public transport initiatives.
The cleaner car discount and support to extend charging networks etc.
Farmers a traditional National base, and so it goes

 

It's why Blue Greens can't get out the gate, National have steadily become less interested. 
ACT, and NZF just give National more cover to do nothing. 

 

Talk is cheap so an economist would say its efficient use of time to kick that can down the road.

So we get stuck between' just kicking that can' and the emergency' do everything all at once' crowd.

Vs consistent progress, infrastructure upgrades contribute to GDP, and set us up for the future.

How is this even in the top things to get rid of? How is this going to help New Zealanders who can't even afford a car in the first place? Why is building more roads the only answer for these guys?

Pay for tax cuts that dont support low income singles

 

Retain smoking revenue Nicotine Tax or whatever its actually called

 

Kick EVs to the curb (literally) as that affects tax affordability

 

But we can use a teeny bit of these gains to repair trans Cook Strait ships as thats not that important to put forward for the future.

Because all I've ever really seen National care about is roads. Apart from the City Rail Link, their focus is usually mostly roads and as many of them as possible.

 

They base this on the belief (much like the transport decisions that were made for Auckland - roads as opposed to an all-encompassing rail network) that we'll have cheap oil available forever. Except that 1950s America mindset doesn't really work too well in 2024.

Nah. It’s in the bin because it was a project that was meant to be open in 2021 and instead no physical work has been started.

The tunnel and station concept was even worse.

Can

 

If the current coalition can nab savings they can use them for transport infrastructure where the  ferries are past use by date. And improve the flow of goods, and thus GDP. But they wont, so ongoing trans Cook Strait issues are locked in. Yes 3 Billion is quite a price but its a long term investment. Seems the meagre tax cuts are more important

That's okay, as long as National's rich mates in big business can get more money, they'll keep voting for them.

 

Everyone else is basically told "good luck with that". Still waiting on my glorious tax cuts, too. Wait, I'm not a millionaire - do I still qualify?

Schrödinger's Light Rail. Scrapping it is bad, but allowing it to continue in a from that makes it so bloated and expensive that it could never actually be built is somehow better.

 

I'm glad it's dead. There's a need for Light Rail in Auckland and now hopefully we will see a return to the discussions about surface level light rail like many other modern cities manage to build for a fraction of the cost we were told it would be here. 

 

When enough time has passed and we have agencies capable of communicating the (real) need for it and not using it as a stalking horse for their actual pet projects (tunnels under the Harbour) then we might actually get a shot at building something.
