Every ship that gets out because a government made arrangements with Iran strengthens Iran and weakens the US, both in terms of direct influence (i.e. the US couldn't get the ship out, Iran allowed it out) and also in terms of weakening the petrodollar because you can bet they didn't pay Iran in USD.

The US has threatened to sanction any Vessels/companies that pay Iran for Transit,

But I'm  guessing Oil/Shipping companies are well experienced in ensuring payoffs are routed via semi-legitimate 3rd party "brokers" and "service providers" and in currencies and commodities that are really hard to trace...  $2 million euro will go into a single briefcase reasonably easily ...

That and the fact that it won't be long before that would mean sanctioning practically every shipping company on the planet which is absurd from every perspective and would just be another nail in the coffin for the US as a superpower.

US: Sanction MSC, and Maersk!

Rest of World: Ummmm... no.

And just like that, the US ability to unilaterally enforce its sanctions through SWIFT etc. dies.

Wait. I thought Iran was blocking the strait. But it sounds like the USA are the ones blocking it, with this policy.

So confusing.

At the risk of invoking Goodwin's Law, USA government right now:

So confusing.

This is merely the twilight of American democracy. 😁

Two days ago we heard there is a new peace plan to end months of war, and it was “largely negotiated”.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/iran-peace-deal-draft-memo-white-house/

Now the US is making new demands, including one where all the countries in the region must join the Abraham Accords as part of the Iran deal.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-administration/trump-says-mandatory-countries-join-abraham-accords-part-iran-deal-rcna346816

[Trump] pointed to Saudi Arabia and Qatar as countries that should “immediately” sign on, followed by Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Jordan.

He wrote that “after all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together, it should be mandatory that all of these Countries, at a minimum, simultaneously, sign onto the Abraham Accords.”

So, Iran opens the Strait with the ceasefire, Trump then replaces that with a blockade on Iran.

Now, we have negotiations that are going "well" so he fires upon Iran targets near thew Strait, another attack that is described as self defense, and he wonders why Iran is playing hardball. US cannot be trusted before a deal or during the deal

Frankly I'm shocked the Iranians are being as level-headed as they even are.

Trump has never actually made a deal. He only works with people he can bully and dominate with money and lawyers and has never had any meaningful push-back in his life. Now he has got himself into a situation with someone equally as ruthless and evil but waaaaaay smarter and with nothing to lose. I don't think he has a clue how to handle it so he's floundering.

Yep, now he's playing with the big boys, not low paid immigrants building his building that never got paid. Or others that his wealth bullied them into sweet deals
