Yes - but there's also kick-back which hopefully means that the conservative authoritarian racist misogynous "alt:right" movement which swept Trump into power is being challenged globally. This seen in Theresa May's failure, as well as failures by nationalists in Europe.

Of course there's risk that conservatives will learn from Trump's failure at leadership, and continue to try to implement their version of anti-liberal Shariah on the West.

I wouldn't read too much into the loss, except it's a failed opportunity. Historically it's been Republican with about 60%. This time they won by about 53% to 47%. A 7-point swing away from the Republicans is not to be sneezed at.

Republican Karen Handel defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff in the June 20, 2017, special election runoff to represent the 6th Congressional District of Georgia.

It was the most expensive U.S. House race in history. The two campaigns, along with outside organizations, spent more than $50 million on the election. Although Handel held the advantage with outside groups spending money on the race, the Democratic effort to flip this congressional seat, which has been held by a Republican since 1979, began early. Ossoff raised $8.3 million in the first quarter of 2017 ... In April and May, Ossoff raised an additional $15 million. Handel raised $4 million, relying on national political figures like President Donald Trump in May and Vice President Mike Pence in June to helm fundraisers.

I suspect that apart from the core supporters, few like him - and many detest him.

It's not all about Trump. The "alt:right" movement pushing an anti-liberal agenda (= authoritarian / anti-freedom / anti human-rights) has been embraced by the GOP - and those are the messages now being pushed, and pushed hard. Voters sucked in by that dumb ideology won't vote for a so-called "liberal" candidate, as apparently we liberals are responsible for every evil on earth.

It shows how much greed for power there is, as what used to be "mainstream" Republicans were very much "classic" liberals. Now they're happy to sell out to morons. I hope France asks for their statue back.

The most infamous is Newt Gingrich.

"A teenage Muslim girl killed by a bat-wielding motorist near a Virginia mosque was an apparent victim of 'road rage' and her death is not being investigated as a hate crime, police said on Monday.

Nabra Hassanen, 17, was attacked early on Sunday in Sterling, Virginia, about 30 miles (50 km) west of Washington, after attending late-night prayers for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, when many Muslims fast from dawn until sunset.

Darwin Martinez Torres, 22, of Sterling, has been arrested and charged with murder in the incident that began with a road dispute with a boy on a bicycle who was among a group of teenagers that included Hassanen, Fairfax County police spokeswoman Julie Parker said.

'It appears that the suspect became so enraged over this traffic argument that it escalated into deadly violence,' she told a news conference.

Parker said there was no indication the attack near the All Dulles Area Muslim Society mosque was motivated by race or religion. Police said there was no sign that Martinez used racial slurs during the attack."

Now her memorial outside the mosque was set on fire. That one is obvious.

"A South Carolina man has been arrested after the memorial for Nabra Hassanen, a 17 year-old Virgina woman who was bludgeoned to death while walking home from a mosque with her friends on Tuesday, was set on fire, a local Fox News affiliate reports.

Thousands of mourners gathered after in Virginia in an outpouring of support for the teen who was described as bright and generous by those who knew her, according to the Associated Press.

But flowers left for Hassanen at Dupont Memorial Fountain in Washington D.C. were set ablaze on Wednesday and police have arrested 24 year-old Jonathan Soloman of South Carolina in connection with the incident.

'At this time, the incident does not appear to be motivated by bias,' a police spokeswoman told NY Daily News.

Police told the local Fox News affiliate that Soloman was setting several items in the park on fire and didn’t appear to be targeting the memorial for Hassanen."

Good response. I had at least one wrong fact in there. That was me reading into the headlines and not checking the stories. More detail today:

DC-Ist: U.S. Park Police responded to the incident, which occurred in the fountain, an area controlled by the National Park Service. "The items had been collected from within the park. There is no evidence that this incident is related to the memorial held in the park the previous evening," Park Police said in a statement. Though items from the memorial were among those burned, "the memorial did not appear to be specifically targeted," Sergeant Anna Rose said via email. A photo of the burned items seems to show some of the flowers from the memorial along with some sticks and a dead bird.

Perhaps it is only a random vandal. Bad timing on his part if that's the case.
