I won't include a link to Youtube, because of the video's content. There's no gore, but people were killed.

For those interested, go to Youtube, and search for

"Ukraine War - Ukrainian Soldiers Knock Out Russian Tank With NLAW In Point Blank Ambush"

The title is self-explanatory.

Terminology:
  • NLAW - Next generation Light Anti-tank Weapon

  • RPG - Rocket-propelled grenade

  • IFV - Infantry fighting vehicle

decibel: And now mercenaries; only useless 3rd world armies employ mercenaries to bolster failing operations.

Like the US you mean?

The two main reasons for using mercs is to reduce your own military casualties, something Russia is in desperate need of, and for deniability over war crimes.

Even our own several-times-wannabe National Leader Mark Mitchell was a "private military contractor" in the Middle East.

US bases in Iraq have just received some missiles that look like they have come from Iran.

This has the potential to go sideways really fast.

Apparently Russia is short of Avgas ?

Dronestuff...

First evidence of Russia using ZALA Aero KUB-BLA loitering munition (kamikaze drone)
One shot down in Kyiv. The UAV carries 1kg of C4 laced with ball bearings.

The possible real story of the drone Elena took down from her balcony with a jar of preserves.

""
Elena says the drone was probably not operated by the Russian military, but by looters looking for empty apartments to ransack.

“The neighbor noticed suspicious young men, and when she began to ask loudly who they were and where they were from, they quickly fled. Peaceful people wouldn't do that," Elena told Liga.
""
She says purported pictures of the incident are fakes, and she has no idea why the story was changed to pickled cucumbers.

(It might be added though that at least one Russian saboteur has been apprehended with a small drone, along with grenades and a sniper rifle).

Fateh-110 missiles, launched from the Khasabad base at Tabriz, Iran - hit Erbil, Iraq - near the American Consulate.

Actually hit an old Mossad training station. No injuries reported by the Americans.

The IRGC released footage with the caption: “First footage of the damages caused by missile attack against Mossad’s den of espionage in Erbil.”

So, likely a provocation. Who knows who actually arranged it, there are a bunch of actors who don't want an Iranian nuclear deal - the IRGC themselves, the Israelis, the Russians etc.

Edited: Iranian place name not correctly spelled.

NPR: Russia plans to limit Instagram and could label [Facebook] Meta an extremist group

Russian authorities called for Facebook parent Meta to be labeled an extremist organization and said they would restrict access to its Instagram app after the social media giant said it would temporarily permit some calls for violence against Russian soldiers.

Russian regulators already have banned access to Facebook in the country. Now, Russia's prosecutor general's office is seeking the "extremist" designation because of what it terms "illegal calls for the murder of Russian nationals" by Meta employees.

...WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging app popular in Russia, was not mentioned in the government statements.

On Friday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said on Twitter that blocking the app "will cut 80 million in Russia off from one another, and from the rest of the world." He said about 80% of users in Russia follow an Instagram account of someone outside the country.

Suppose Russia will be moving to the Chinese app services with all the extra features for maintaining order and security.
Funny how Oligarchs and their children, along with children of Russia's leaders spend so much on assets and lives outside of Russia.

Washington Post: Russia says its businesses can steal patents from anyone in ‘unfriendly’ countries

Russia has effectively legalized patent theft from anyone affiliated with countries “unfriendly” to it, declaring that unauthorized use will not be compensated.

The decree, issued this week, illustrates the economic war waged around Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as the West levies sanctions and pulls away from Russia’s huge oil and gas industry. Russian officials have also raised the possibility of lifting restrictions on some trademarks, according to state media, which could allow continued use of brands such as McDonald’s that are withdrawing from Russia in droves.

Looks like the Russian warship that spawned one of the most famous lines in recent military history has, well, experienced what the quote said.

The video doesn't show much detail so it's a probable, but to be confirmed.

Aviaci Online: Antonov 225 comes back as a ghost on flight trackers with message "FckPutin"

The end of last week was marked as the moment when it was confirmed that one of the most important aircraft in history, and also the largest in the world, was destroyed in Ukraine in the midst of the Russian invasion.

After several days of speculation about the real condition of the Antonov An-225 Mriya, considering photos of its damaged hangar, a video made by a Russian broadcaster at Gostomel airport near the capital, Kiev, showed that virtually nothing remained of the entire front half of the giant aircraft.

...Several people took screenshots showing what would be An-225 registration UR-82060, the only example of the model ever built, performing a perfectly circular trajectory around Kiev and, moreover, the flight identification is an insult to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

That would be a colossal own-goal against the future recovery of the RU economy wouldn't it? International companies would priorities manufacturing and designing as much as possible in the west, rather than using local resources. I get Putin wants to act out and slap all the companies that are taking a stand against his actions, but this will punish the Russian people long-term. Same thing goes for the nationalising of the planes leased from the west; no one will lend the russians equipment anymore, at least not without a "risk" premium.
