Musk announced last week on Saturday he was ditching Twitter's bird logo and replacing it with a large "X."

Later that day, he asked his followers to suggest a logo to be used as an interim design.

This one was submitted, which seemed like it matched Musk's views:

neb: And why do you need to make this distinction? It's like saying "female engineer" 20 years ago ("gosh, a girl's tiny brain has managed to absorb enough knowledge to be an engineer, it's a miracle!" [*]), it was an odd thing to say then and pretty much unthinkable now. All of the trans folks I know (they're all MtF trans in this case so I don't know how it works the other way) are referred to as "she" or "her" and... absolutely nothing happens. Civilisation doesn't end, there's no rain of frogs, the water doesn't turn to blood, nothing. A bunch of MAGA-hatters get bent out of shape, but I reckon that's a net benefit. [*] A female friend of mine was nominated for some women-in-engineering award some years ago and was rather offended by it because she was an engineer, not a collection of anatomy that happened to also be an engineer on the side.

That's kind of how I view it.  I don't generally care if a woman is cis or trans.  It makes no difference to the way I would interact with her, with the exception of one very specific circumstance.

You know, trying to get a trademark on a single letter, in particular a something as popular as "X" or "𝕏", is arrogant at best.

Oh well, "a fool and his $44 billion are easily parted"

Popular Mechanics: A Brief History of Twitter’s New 𝕏 Logo, Which Is Actually Meant for Typing Out Math

  • Twitter’s new logo is a Unicode character from a math alphabets subset.
  • The previous logo was refined over more than a decade and heavily regulated online.
  • The “Twitter X” dates back to 2001 as part of Unicode.

Social media is on fire this week, following the very sudden rebranding of Twitter as just “X,” or, to be specific, “𝕏.” This decorative-looking version of the letter X is part of the extended character set known as Unicode, which means it was introduced at some point with a purpose. This also seems to mean that Elon Musk chose just one character, typed in a regular font, as the logo to replace the decade-plus-old Twitter logo that’s recognizable around the world.

Ein X für ein U vormachen https://dict.leo.org/forum/viewUnsolvedquery.php?idForum=1&idThread=157244&lp=ende&lang=en

Latin U was a „V“ and when you add another „V“ upside down, you get a „X“. So if you drunk too much you got to pay 10 (X) Roman wines instead of only 5 (V).

Enjoy! If you like to throw your money out of the window! 3 Bottles (0.33L each) for just 79 GBP! I‘m sure some will buy it! 😄

This gimmicky type gets on my nerves and is an insult to people with intellect.

It's an insult to anyone! They quote the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot and then it's brewed by arch-Prussians, it'd be like a restaurant advertising British haute cuisine. Rammstein even wrote a song about the significance of the Reinheitsgebot.

The German purity law has become insignificant for beer MASS production anyway, as it only states that nothing but the known 4 ingredients may be contained in the beer. However, plastics and additives (easily 12 ingredients during the process) are used in mass production and are removed again before bottling. The result is a super clear, dead beer!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VILgLbSPw38 sorry, only in German

Well, at least Musk beer will do better than Trump Steaks

Trump Steaks failed to sell well and discontinued sales of the product line after two months.

I'm sure Musk's product sell out, just because of the bottles, not the quality of the beer.

The Guardian - Giant glowing ‘X’ sign atop Twitter office in San Francisco removed

01 Aug 23

The city building department had logged 24 complaints after the new logo went up, with neighbors upset over its intrusive lights.

Over the weekend locals recorded video of the giant X glowing, pulsing and strobing ...

This morning, building inspectors observed the structure being dismantled.

The property owner will be assessed fees for "unpermitted installation of an illuminated structure.”
