The next issue are rumours that Russia has asked China for military support. Perhaps assisting Russia to bypass sanctions is also an issue.

Some may say that if Ukraine can get help why can't Russia? The simple answer is that some countries are helping a country that is the victim of an unprovoked attack. Anyone who assists the provoker, is supporting unprovoked attacks, and wanton destruction of women, children, defenders, and buildings. Many of the latter are not strategic military installations. Now the mayor of a taken over town is charged with terrorism.

China could be very stuck between a rock and a hard place. Its getting to a point where its close to already being a world war, even if that description isn't technically correct. The vast majority of the world is involved, either by military or humanitarian support, or just plain old morale support.

Looks like China and USA holding a meeting on Monday in Rome.

"White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, in Rome on Monday as part of a follow-up conversation..."

Also China is being watched closely, and I’m guessing they will face action if assist Russia to much.

"We also are watching closely to see the extent to which China actually does provide any form of support, material support or economic support, to Russia. It is a concern of ours. And we have communicated to Beijing that we will not stand by and allow any country to compensate Russia for its losses from the economic sanctions," Sullivan said."

Interesting points. One way, is if Russia fails, China is hemmed in by everyone else. Or they get commended by effectively ending the war if they dont support Russia.

China has a big enough population, prosperity and demand for goods from the West to manage fine. Russia till now, has not been anything thats kept China alive. Its all about honour. How to say no to Russia.I guess they could just keep asking for diplomacy not war and leave it that that?

That would be a colossal own-goal against the future recovery of the RU economy wouldn't it?

Yup, and that's why it's mostly posturing by Putin, no Russian company will risk doing that to any extent because they're commercial businesses and realise that at some point Russia will need to apply for readmission to the human race, and having that on the admission form isn't going to look good.

Regarding the destruction of the world's largest plane, the really weird is evangelical Youtube channels have picked up the news.

Evangelical Pat Robertson floated the idea that the Ukraine invasion was part of the imminent literal Biblical end-of-the-world.

Of course, previously Pat Robertson also thought "Tinky Winky" the Teletubby was gay.

There's been long-standing support for right-wing Zionists from right-wing US evangelicals for exactly this reason. Which is a really weird combination, the US far right is pretty antisemitic in general except when it comes to armageddon.

Tying it to Ukraine, admittedly, is pretty unusual, they're usually hoping for apocalyptic war to break out in the Middle East not Europe. Baby steps I guess.

With the rising price of grave sites, and possibility of disturbance over millennia waiting for the Rapture.
Evangelicals just want to rush the process, maybe if they destroy the world god will come earlier.

I wonder what the home country government agencies, like the American CIA, think of people who do this?

If I knew someone without Ukrainian roots who went to the Ukraine to fight, I'd be worried about their sanity.

A great many people, including many famous and highly-regarded ones, went to Spain to fight fascism. I respect anyone who does the same in Ukraine.

i think these guys are ex army. with army training and combat exposure, yes it changes you, drive you insane. these are people who have been stripped of their identity in gruelling training, and coming out the other end and fighting war after war. they go back to america and they have PTSD, anxiety, sleep problems, no respect. they are dying to take up arms again.
