Go ahead. Mark my day.

I think we can probably file that with the
" if you buy a Tesla today, I believe you are buying an appreciating asset – not a depreciating asset.”

After which Tesla cut its new car prices on multiple occasions...

The Guardian - Giant glowing ‘X’ sign atop Twitter office in San Francisco removed

Typical Musk move, "building permits are for losers, we'll just slap a gigantic stroboscopic light array up there and be done with it". Apparently people were mistaking the sign for lightning flashes, if you watch the video footage you can see how bad it was.

I think the main difference between Musk and Stockton Rush is that Musk has more money to throw at things so he can hire the people he needs to get things less wrong.

Edited to add: Here's one video showing it, typical US moronic "news" commentary but you can see how bad it is around 20s in:

New York Times: Twitter Sues Nonprofit That Tracks Hate Speech

Elon Musk has over the last year threatened legal action against tech competitors, employees and people who use Twitter, which he owns. Now he is also taking aim at an organization that studies hate speech and misinformation on social media.

X Corp., the parent company of the social media company, sent a letter on July 20 to the Center for Countering Digital Hate, a nonprofit that conducts research on social media, accusing the organization of making “a series of troubling and baseless claims that appear calculated to harm Twitter generally, and its digital advertising business specifically,” and threatening to sue.

The letter cited research published by the Center for Countering Digital Hate in June examining hate speech on Twitter, which Mr. Musk has renamed X.com. The research consisted of eight papers, including one that found that Twitter had taken no action against 99 percent of the 100 Twitter Blue accounts the center reported for “tweeting hate.” The letter called the research “false, misleading or both” and said the organization had used improper methodology.

The letter added that the center was funded by Twitter’s competitors or foreign governments “in support of an ulterior agenda.”

Imran Ahmed, the chief executive of the Center for Countering Digital Hate, said, “Elon Musk’s actions represent a brazen attempt to silence honest criticism and independent research.” He added that Mr. Musk wanted to “stem the tide of negative stories and rebuild his relationship with advertisers.”

The center also said it did “not accept any funding from tech companies, governments, or their affiliates.”

it was also reported that he closed down a major intersection to get it to the roof and it didnt seem if he had permission to do it according to reports.

The NY Times - Zuckerberg Says It’s ‘Time to Move On’ From ‘Cage Fight’ With Musk

13 August 2023

The will-they-or-won’t-they drama between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg over a potential “cage fight” appeared on Sunday to end with a whimper, as Mr. Zuckerberg said that Mr. Musk’s delays and excuses had rendered the discussion moot.

In a post to his nascent social-networking platform, Threads, Mr. Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Meta, wrote, “I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on.” He included the hint of a taunt, “If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me.”

Mr. Zuckerberg’s message seemingly ended the suspense around a stranger-than-fiction summer of tension between the technology titans.

Musk takes a page from the Mel Gibson/Kayne West's playbook: "it's the Jews' faults"

The Guardian: Elon Musk threatens to sue Anti-Defamation League over lost X revenue

Elon Musk has threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League after accusing the US-based civil rights group that campaigns against antisemitism and bigotry of trying to “kill” his X social media platform.

The owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, said the ADL was trying to shut down his company by “falsely accusing it and me of being antisemitic”.
...
Musk recently sued another anti-hate speech group, the Center for Countering Digital Hate, in a lawsuit accusing it of damaging X’s relationship with advertisers. CCDH has said it will fight the lawsuit and keep holding “Twitter’s feet to the fire”.
...
The ADL describes itself as the world’s leading anti-hate organisation and says its mission is “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all”.

According to the group, antisemitic posts on X increased sharply after Musk bought the site in October 2022 and the platform subsequently reinstated extremists and conspiracy theorists, while allowing the harassment of former members of its now-dissolved trust and safety council.

One legal expert said Musk could attempt to sue for defamation under US state law but is unlikely to succeed.

“Whether or not someone is antisemitic is fundamentally a matter of opinion, which is protected expression. Elon’s threats of litigation seem to be in effort to dissuade ADL from perpetuating a message he does not like,” said Jennifer Safstrom, a professor at Vanderbilt University law school.
...
In 2021, advertising accounted for 90% of X’s revenue but that income stream has been hit by companies pausing ad spending over doubts about Musk’s leadership.

The carmaker Audi and the pharmaceuticals group Pfizer were among the brands that have boycotted X amid concerns about the platform’s stance on content. X has reinstated previously banned users such as the misogynist influencer Andrew Tate and also botched a relaunch of its subscription product, which resulted in a spate of impostor accounts.

BBC News - Elon Musk: Social media platform X could go behind paywall

breaking

Elon Musk has suggested that all users of X, formerly called Twitter, may have to pay for access to the platform.

In a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the billionaire said a payment system was the only way to counter bots.

"We're moving to having a small monthly payment for use of the system," the Tesla and SpaceX boss said.

The BBC approached X for further details but has not yet received a statement from the company.

It is unclear whether this was just an off-the-cuff comment, or a signal of firmer plans that have yet to be announced.

Was this his plan all along for getting rid of the bots? Or did he just realise he's not as smart as he thinks he is and he's going to Plan B? 😂

BBC News, Washington - Elon Musk woos world leaders, courting controversy

19 Sep 23

He is "very impressed" with Emmanuel Macron. Narendra Modi can count him as "a fan". And Benjamin Netanyahu just dropped in to see him.

A parade of foreign leaders on recent US trips, including on official state visits at the White House's invitation, have added sit-downs with Elon Musk to their schedules.

This year, the world's richest man has met with, to name a few, the heads of France, Italy, India, South Korea, Turkey and Israel.

Yet while the mercurial billionaire is more highly sought after than ever, there is no love lost between him and the Biden administration.

And as the outspoken contrarian's political reach expands, including by wading into sensitive geopolitical issues, there is growing unease for some over Mr Musk's power and access. ...

I suppose its polite to call him 'contrarian', but really Elon Musk only thinks of 'What's in it for Me, only Me, First Me, Forever Me'.
He seems pretty typical of railway baron of old, I'm bring'in progress and monopoly.

He would be fully at home with oil barons bringing progress to the world diving things up 'seven sisters style'.
Besides the aspect he would want to own it all.
I don't play well with others, so why would you think I would play with you.

He is 'Agent Smith' as a tech billionaire, Me, Me, Me, Me...
He has to eliminate company founders, so he is founder and all tribute comes back to him.

Gengis Khan would understand him perfectly.
You either send suitable tribute or...

To be frank this was pretty much Steve Jobs as well, he did not even save putting the boot into Steve Wozniak.

Hover trains in a vacuum tube, and they will be orders of magnitude cheaper than rails in the open.
Like air-hockey in a vacuum, its easy. 10's, no 100's Km long train sized vacuum tubes, supported by pumping stations that use no energy.
Miles of steel and concrete, as air-tight as. It's so obviously cheap and easy.
 yeh contrarian.

Imagine in fifteen years when he decides to run for the White House and you find out this "Only Me, First Me, Forever Me" mindset is Trump 2.0

As far as I know he was born in South Africa, so as far as running for President goes, it will have to be left to our imagination.
