This has the potential to go sideways really fast.

Its already sideways. Russia decreed that if they see imported weaponry they will attack it. Who'd have thought???

That is more of a fair target once they are in Ukraine than civilians.

Although, NATO have said if any stray munitions impact a NATO country its an act of war and they will react, so Russian pilots and artillerymen had better be really sure about where they are attacking these convoys.

Usually there is a bit of leeway for accidents, as in there will be a negotiation and reparation, not this time.

Agree with all that. Fair target. But no leeway at the border at all. It "could" be a mistake but Putins track record removes that for NATO

Report of Putin arresting his top spies now. Possibly retaliation for faulty intelligence.

“The author and editor added that the intelligence may have gathered good intelligence, but the problem lies in the difficulty faced by Russian superiors to tell Putin what he doesn’t want to hear.”

Also reported more then 20 address’s of FSB officers were searched by their colleagues for being suspected of talking to journalists.

i'd love him to terminate all his best people. then you're left with goons yes-men as your advisors and generals.

Honestly this reminds me of Trump, getting his "bag man" to fire anyone not loyal to the orange buffoon, and by the end, he was surrounded by nothing but 100% yes men. I think we all know how well things went after that.

The difference in Russia, is that the populous are missing out on a lot, not just Macca's. That will grow. In Russia you dont need to edit for an election, you remove who you dont want, then win a fake election. Same might work in reverse.

The Government is ramping up an unprecedented scale of humanitarian support for the Ukrainian refugee crisis by introducing a new 2022 Special Ukraine Policy.

The policy will allow Ukrainian born New Zealand citizens and residents here to bring in members of their Ukrainian family whose lives are at risk due to Russia’s aggression.

More than 2 million people have fled the war in Ukraine with the United Nations Refugee Agency labelling it the fastest-growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.

“This is the largest special visa category we have established in decades to support an international humanitarian effort and, alongside the additional $4 million in humanitarian funding also announced today, it adds to a number of measures we’ve already implemented to respond to the worsening situation in Ukraine,” Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi said.

“New Zealand has moved quickly to condemn the brutal and intolerable invasion of Ukraine. Alongside other diplomatic measures, we have acted urgently to respond to Russia’s hostility by instituting travel bans, export controls, passing the Russia Sanctions Act 2022, and providing aid funding to support crucial humanitarian work.

“Our Ukrainian community in New Zealand has also asked us to help in sheltering their family members who have been forced to flee their homes due to Russia’s unprovoked attack. We have listened, and today’s announcement will provide a pathway for their families’ safety.

“The 2022 Special Ukraine Policy will be open for a year and allow the estimated 1,600 Ukrainian-born citizens and residents in New Zealand to sponsor parents, grand-parents and adult siblings or adult children and their immediate family who are ordinarily resident in Ukraine to shelter safely here.

“It’s a two year visa to help people escape the current conflict and to shelter here in the hope they can return home when the war ends.

“This builds on previous supports we have provided through our immigration system, which included extensions for Ukrainian nationals in New Zealand whose visas expire before the end of the year, and ensuring Ukrainian citizens holding valid New Zealand visas offshore can enter immediately without waiting for our borders to reopen.

“Successful applicants will also have work rights or study rights if they are 18 years old or younger.

”Eligible sponsors can now contact Immigration New Zealand (INZ), who will prioritise sponsorship requests and visa applications. Once visa are granted, visa holders will have nine months to travel here,” Kris Faafoi said.

Sponsors will be responsible for arranging and funding travel to New Zealand, and accommodation and living costs once in New Zealand, and the government acknowledges the commitment the Ukrainian community is making to provide such support for their loved ones.

“INZ will quickly assess the sponsorship requests and then invite visa applications. Given the situation on the ground, applications can be completed by sponsors here and there will be a streamlined process for applicants. They will need to declare that they meet health and character requirements but documentation will not be required. No fees will be charged,” Kris Faafoi said.

“New Zealand was one of the first countries to give humanitarian support to Ukrainians when Russia invaded, and these latest measures demonstrate New Zealand’s ongoing concern and compassionate approach over the suffering being caused to Ukrainians,” Kris Faafoi said.

I was wondering when someone would do that. Hopefully more will follow, Putin's most effective means of control over his subjects is his total control of what most of them see, hear, and read.

Japan had Tokyo Rose, Vietnam had Hanoi Hannah, looks like Russia now has Comrade Carlson.

The main difference is that unlike the first two, Carlson presumably isn't aware he's acting as the other side's propagandist.

Of course their function is much more than a placeholder of ill gotten assets and a giant laundry.
When you have billions moving around hither and tither a few million snuck into someone's back pocket is easily missed.

Being mega rich, no one questions the angel investing in someone's favorite projects,
large donations and influence they can wield.
Invites to big sports matches or a cruise on the yacht for a bit of fishing,
or your scintillating company at the lodge.
( Like Prince Andrew you can later say, well I did not even see XYZ there he is so busy with his Billions )

Much like we have had here with political party donations, and charity auctions with other influencers.
Financing tied to selecting certain politically reliable party candidates ( No just corrupt or corruptible is sufficient).

The homegrown propaganda machine must be pretty amazing in Russia - I watched a short video of everyday people being interviewed in the streets of Russia and they all (mostly) felt that Ukraine had perpetrated some unspeakable evil on Russia and deserved whatever they got. And that "The West" was always against them, so sanctions were nothing new and not to be feared. Their incredible naivety and belief in Russia was incredible, if not head-shakingly simple-minded to anyone with the ability to see the broader picture.
