Thats a bit of a dollar each way, or a turnaround? Luxon bitterly complained about recent net immigration figures, now its ok?
He's made that bed for himself now; I know they'll argue that building infrastructure is the way you fix that, not limiting migration altogether.
But likewise we'll see a bunch of people holding this against them when they don't get numbers down who had relatively little to say about it for the last couple of years.
As an aside; I'd really, really want to know how you help Auckland mop up more and more migrants by four lanening roads in the back of beyond.
Its a bit of the endless campaign promises catching up with them/him. None of the issues NZ has are recent. Any party will pay the price for magic promises, as Labour has done. What grinds my gears is our current high net immigration is high, bagging the previous Govt, still doing it, now its another backtrack.
Immigration is a hard one. As we know, right now its high. Luxon says thats bad, now its not bad. What we have seen is fast tracking the skills we need from overseas, thats what everyone wanted, if Kiwis are returning home more then before we cannot stop that. Its one of those issues that cannot be fought over for brownie points IMO. Building infrastrucure is the fix but that's long term. We are a market driven economy as a past PM often stated, so job/skill market is working if they are coming to NZ, and housing, being market driven is fine too. Reality is, it doesn't work like that, we are too tiny for free going market forces to keep an equilibrium in place.
