Thats a bit of a dollar each way, or a turnaround? Luxon bitterly complained about recent net immigration figures, now its ok?

He's made that bed for himself now; I know they'll argue that building infrastructure is the way you fix that, not limiting migration altogether.

But likewise we'll see a bunch of people holding this against them when they don't get numbers down who had relatively little to say about it for the last couple of years.

As an aside; I'd really, really want to know how you help Auckland mop up more and more migrants by four lanening roads in the back of beyond.

Its a bit of the endless campaign promises catching up with them/him. None of the issues NZ has are recent. Any party will pay the price for magic promises, as Labour has done. What grinds my gears is our current high net immigration is high, bagging the previous Govt, still doing it, now its another backtrack.

Immigration is a hard one. As we know, right now its high. Luxon says thats bad, now its not bad. What we have seen is fast tracking the skills we need from overseas, thats what everyone wanted, if Kiwis are returning home more then before we cannot stop that. Its one of those issues that cannot be fought over for brownie points IMO. Building infrastrucure is the fix but that's long term. We are a market driven economy as a past PM often stated, so job/skill market is working if they are coming to NZ, and housing, being market driven is fine too. Reality is, it doesn't work like that, we are too tiny for free going market forces to keep an equilibrium in place.

RBNZ have suggested more generous DTIs for investors than owner occupiers.

Were I Finance Minister, I would be seeking an urgent 'please explain'.

Christopher Luxon in parody advert promoting prime minister’s ‘favourite’ pornography sites - NZ Herald

A National Party spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the website operating with malicious intent against National Party leader Christopher Luxon – the website is fake and not in any way authorised by the National Party and its leader.

“We have reported the website to the relevant authorities – including CERT NZ (New Zealand’s Computer Emergency Response Team) who are investigating the site and its misuse of National Party branding and photos.”

CERT NZ shouldn't be involved if there's no security risk for users. F

ind who is the domain owner and go after the person.

But what for? Parody?

Annoying? Sure. But within acceptable speech, I'd say. Worried about the party "branding and photos"? Complain about trademark and copyright, then.

I am sure their lawyers would know what to do.

Whoever did it isn't stupid. Cloudflare, not using a NZ TLD and looking like it is hosted via Cloudflare Sites also. Had they used a NZ TLD it could be another story. Right now they're basically anonymous.

Yeah they've covered the basics well enough that it isn't really worth going to the effort of tracking them down considering how little real harm done. However we should not minimise it: we wouldn't think it was very funny if it was a woman.

Not if your party leader happened to own 7 houses, you wouldn't.

So the idea of giving first home owners a significant edge to get into the market is super dead.

Well you can see why you are losing social cohesion, its gonna be a rough ride.

Lee Quan Yu knew for Singapore the Government had to dig deep to invest in getting people into stable housing of their own and great public education to get social cohesion.
This was from a right wing ( If Authoritarian) business-oriented view, so not super lefties.
Just practical.

Starts to put the whole revoking LVRs for investors thing from the COVID response into context; i.e. perhaps not so much incompetence as an excuse to do things a certain way.

A report card on how they're doing so far (has it really been 50 days already?)

One of my home loans is coming up for renewal - can only see the interest rate has gone up by 1% in my case. Goes to show the cost of living hasn't been a big target for them given supermarket pricing is still going up too.

Going through the report card it just seems it is still reversing what Labour has done and giving their mates more money. Are there any policies that really stand out as being "good" for the general public?

Same. The way they talked the previous government caused inflation and house prices upward trends.

The way I see they have done nothing so far that benefits the general population. Not a bit.

More smoking, higher home loan rates. less medicine allowances.

Not a government for the people.

Don't forget the cancellation of the clean car scheme, as apparently that was a bad policy too...just reduced greenhouse emissions by a lot.

PS: I really, really don't like Simeon Brown.

Definitely a rare misstep for Simeon Brown, that one.

The legislation change requiring RBNZ to focus on inflation was the right call IMO. That's a good step, bringing employment into it was at odds with the core function of managing inflation.
