kingdragonfly:
Russian troops are stuck outside various Ukrainian cities where they face huge supply problems and constant Ukrainian attacks....

Simply not true.....
Russian forces are not stuck .

Its a sensible Russian tactic to build up forces OUTSIDE the cities , far enough so they are out of range of the defenders .
Just as the US built up forces before going into Iraq . They werent stuck, but the Russians are ?

All the Russians need to do is surround the Major cities & starve them out .
The Russians have plenty of time. Those trapped in blockaded cities wont have plenty of time .

There have been Russian complaints getting bogged down about cheap Chinese made tires, by climate and constant attacks.

The Russian soldiers may be the ones starved out, since they are struggling even with a 90 mile long supply lines

Ukrainians confiscated a Russian supply truck on its way to the front lines. It was only bags of turnips, onions, and a few pickle jars. From a captured tank, Ukrainians showed Russian expired MRE from 2015, and its bad quality. Russian solider are also plundering grocery stores for supplies.

As mentioned before Russian corruption has made for historically poor supplies, and the Russian economy in total is more-or-less the same size as Spain.

Not criticising the poster, but I don't know where that weird but frequently-quoted comparison comes from, Russian GDP isn't that close to Spain's and since Spain was until recently one of the Eurozone's crisis countries it's not a particularly apt country to compare anything to. If you look at total GDP Russia is below Italy and above Australia, if it's per capita Russia is with Kazakhstan, Romania, Equatorial Guinea, and Uruguay, and if you look at the mean rather than the highly-distorted average caused by the oligarchs, Russia is grouped with Africa.

Does this mean Russian people won't be bothered by sanctions because they are already so deprived?

Wnyc Studios: Escape from Tarkov

"...the story of a Twitch streamer named Pavel, who is known to his viewers as 'Bobi.'

He was live-streaming from a military base in eastern Ukraine when he felt the earth move from a Russian attack.

His reaction was captured in a now-viral clip, in which he can be seen giving an emotional goodbye to his viewers as he flees to his family.

Over the next four days, Bobi and his family were guided through the war zone by two of his most devoted fans..."

Russia's presidential administration has more or less claimed it will have no effect. It will be very bad for ordinary people if this continues. The sanctions are severe.

A 10 day old video, but still good.

Mentioned is why it was so easy to track Russian troop movements; No need for Putin to blame his own spies.

Also Russian tanks abandoned for lack of fuel

Quick glance at the news Ukraine may settle, including not allowed to be in NATO. Unreal. Its a province of Russia or it isnt

Nonsense. There are several non-NATO countries that are members of the European Union, for example. It's entirely up to Ukraine.

You probably have no idea what are you talking about. The total size of Russian forces involved in Ukraine is about 200K. That's not enough to blockade even one major city like Kharkiv, Dnipro, or Kyiv.

NATO wasn’t making it easy for Ukraine to join anyway so agreeing to this seems to be common sense to me.

The sticking points would be demilitarisation, and if land is taken off Ukraine.

I also wonder where this leaves Sweden and Finland, popular opinion has swung to joining NATO, but it’s a more then two day process, so they put in to join, get attacked for asking to join, and no defence from NATO directly.

So, lets say there is an agreement, Ukraine wont join NATO, even though they are an independent nation and not beholding to Putin. Demilitarisation. Well, no one else would attack Ukraine. Lets say part of Ukraine's land is taken, the South mainly. They sign something like this off.

Life goes back to normal except, thousands are dead, and may cities and towns have been or have large parts of them levelled. When does the power and gas go back on? Where do kids go to school or Uni? Where do you go if you need a hospital?

This is quite poignant, I was thinking just this when he gave his speech to a huge audience online and they all stood up and clapped at the end

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/03/16/politics/zelensky-speech-national-psyches/index.html

He is effectively putting those leaders on personal notice that his fate, those of his people and the continued existence of Ukraine will live on their conscience -- and depends on their willingness to defend the principles for which they speak and on which their democracies rest.

There is huge support globally, and weapons are sent in. But other than that, the West are just watching it all play out. If and when Ukraine is taken over, the West will continue watching. I know we are trying to avoid fighting Russia, and are using economic weapons, but even so.
