Ah, the world's dumbest genius is at it again. Is he still playing 4D chess? Or is he at 5D now? Maybe 6D?

“Above everything, including profit, X works to protect the public’s right to free speech. But for speech to be truly free, we must also have the freedom to see or hear things that some people may consider objectionable,” he added.

Musk still doesn't get that free speech doesn't mean freedom of consequences. You can't expect to run "absolute free speech" on your platform, knowing it is something that "people may consider objectionable" and think that advertisers will just shrug and say "Let's just keep advertising adjacent to this material anyway".

You know what, Elon? Put any damn thing on your platform that you want. I don't care. But you gotta stop crying when the world turns its back on you.

Tesla isn’t the first company to do this but because it’s them and “Elon bad!” it’s makes for good click bait headlines.
They’ve removed that clause now anyway.

Yes, marketing by outcry - that's clear. It works a few times, but at some point even the rich or middle-class dumb people realise it.

I haven't participated in this thread before, but I would not qualify Elon Musk as "God" or anything but a conspiracy theorist racist prick but that's an opinion.

In any case, I love reading Techdirt. You should read this whole page about the lawsuit the "Free speech absolutist but with small censorship inclines" brought up this week against an article that shows evidence advertising appears next to neo-nazi and extremism content: Congrats To Elon Musk: I Didn’t Think You Had It In You To File A Lawsuit This Stupid. Reuters: White House blasts Musk's 'hideous' antisemitic lie, advertisers pause on

The White House on Friday condemned Elon Musk's endorsement of what it called a "hideous" antisemitic conspiracy theory on X, while major U.S. companies including Walt Disney Co (DIS.N), Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O) and NBCUniversal parent Comcast (CMCSA.O) paused their advertisements on his social media site.

Musk on Wednesday agreed with a post on X that falsely claimed Jewish people were stoking hatred against white people, saying the user who referenced the "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory was speaking "the actual truth."

That conspiracy theory holds that Jewish people and leftists are engineering the ethnic and cultural replacement of white populations with non-white immigrants that will lead to a "white genocide."

Axios reported that Apple (AAPL.O), the world's largest company by market value, was also pausing its ads.

IBM (IBM.N) on Thursday halted its advertising on X after a report found its ads were placed next to content promoting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. Media Matters said it found that corporate advertisements by IBM, Apple, Oracle (ORCL.N) and Comcast's Xfinity were being placed alongside antisemitic content.

Advertisers have fled the site, formerly called Twitter, since Musk bought it in October 2022 and reduced content moderation, resulting in a sharp rise in hate speech on X, according to civil rights groups.

It competes against Apple's "SOS" on iPhone models 14 & 15, which uses the Globalstar's constellation of low-orbit satellites

Apple's SOS supported countries New Zealand, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the U.K., and the U.S.

I'm not sure this qualifies for this thread. The video is not even a review of an existing service.

Apple SOS is not the same as cellular via satellite.

Starlink cellular service is not even out yet and the video is about the current plans - it will be released in other countries soon, and in New Zealand with One NZ from 2024 with SMS services first, then voice calls.

It's not the only satellite service coming out this year and next. 2degrees is using Lynk.

That video is just some fake rage for a service that's not yet out.

His latest public response to the companies that have currently paused advertising on Twitter was "Go fu*k yourself".

He also said “What this advertising boycott is going to do is kill X. The whole world will know that those advertisers killed the company, and we will document it in great detail.”

I always thought that Twitter would continue to limp along, finding a niche as a cesspit of hate speech, but the problems are starting to sound pretty serious this time around. Linda Yaccarino is only going to be able to put out the fire so many times before Musk burns the whole thing to the ground.

Fails to grasp the concept of selling a service.
Well selling anything.
That it means you have a value that customer wants trade for the money.
Even if its perceived value, its still exchange of value for value.

His arrogance really is breathtaking. He thinks the advertisers will be to blame for the failure of Twitter? Not his own stupidity? He has apologised for endorsing an antisemitic conspiracy which is partly what caused advertisers to pull out. Now he's insulting the advertisers for doing so and saying it'll be their fault if/when Twitter collapses. Then, the same man who is so desperate for advertising money doubles down by accusing them of blackmailing him with advertising money. Then he swears at all of them and then references Bob, presumably Bob Iger CEO of Disney, the company whose money he desperately wants. Bob Iger, incidentally, is Jewish.

The Tesla Semi launch event was held on November 16th, 2017, exactly six years ago last week. At the end of that launch event, Elon Musk had a signature “one more thing” that was the unveiling of the incredible second-generation Tesla Roadster. Back then the car was promised to be delivered in 2020, which obviously didn’t happen, but it was compelling. The order books for the car were opened immediately after the event, and people were asked to wire transfer $50,000 to secure their place in line for the car, or pay the full $250,000 for one of the one-thousand “Founders Edition” models.

This car was a huge deal in 2017, promising to be the quickest-ever production car, and the first to do a sub-two-second 0-60 time and a sub-nine-second quarter mile.

From Q1 2017 through Q1 2018, Tesla was losing $7,430 per minute. The company was just figuring out how to get Model 3 production up and running, and that cost a whole lot of money. Elon Musk admitted that the company was “less than a month from bankruptcy” at the time. If you’re a company in dire straits, and cash is key to your survival, you’ll do anything to get your hands on some, right? Would you make up some specs about some new products and pass a hat around the room to get some “deposits” for your wildly unrealistic promises?

Rather than selling off some of his ownership of the company, Musk sold promises at $250,000 a piece, and has yet to honor them. Tesla had a Kickstarter campaign, and it’s not delivering perks. That quarter billion just for the Founders Edition cars probably helped the company quite a bit, and there’s no telling how many $50,000 deposits the company got and still holds. Much the same way Starbucks isn’t really a coffee company, Tesla isn’t really a car company.

Tesla is a promise company. It makes promises to its customers, various governments, and other businesses. Those promises require up-front payment, and whether they come to fruition or not, the company keeps the money while continually blowing through deadlines.
