Even children are being arrested.
Also saw on the TV news one lady was questioned, then let go and all she was doing was carrying flowers on the street.

NATO wasn’t making it easy for Ukraine to join anyway so agreeing to this seems to be common sense to me.
The sticking points would be demilitarisation, and if land is taken off Ukraine.
I also wonder where this leaves Sweden and Finland, popular opinion has swung to joining NATO, but it’s a more then two day process, so they put in to join, get attacked for asking to join, and no defence from NATO directly.
So, lets say there is an agreement, Ukraine wont join NATO, even though they are an independent nation and not beholding to Putin. Demilitarisation. Well, no one else would attack Ukraine. Lets say part of Ukraine's land is taken, the South mainly. They sign something like this off.
Life goes back to normal except, thousands are dead, and may cities and towns have been or have large parts of them levelled. When does the power and gas go back on? Where do kids go to school or Uni? Where do you go if you need a hospital?
And in five years Putin tries it again.

I dont know what to think now. Its a slaughter. There has been the odd news bite about the non NATO Nordic states. I can only assume that if Finland and Sweden were attacked, it would be the same as Ukraine. Lots of support, here are weapons, that's it. NATO, Europe would just watch. But be very emotionally supportive, thats not that helpful.
A reminder on how Putin got there including surviving the uncovering of his ballot stuffing operation.
Large numbers of Russians came out to protest,
the pre-marked votes, voting booths with erasable pens so votes could be altered.
He just brutally suppressed protests, and imprisoned and killed many opponents.

How do you negotiate with someone for whom lying is natural and just a negotiating tactic ?
For whom there is no such thing as an enduring agreement,
So a ceasefire, is a chance to re-enforce and secure areas captured, have fake elections there, and be ready for a new jump off.
Neutrality is, whatever I think it is on the day, but generally, totally aligned with me.
So I can run political operations to put in power whom I want like I did in Belarus.
My favorite oligarchs get deals to control your key economic assets.
Some other special gifts as well for my favorite people.
Polonium, Novichok, a bullet or what may look like a suicide or bizarre bondage gone wrong.
Disarm, is literarily disarmed.
My security forces can walk in anytime I want uncontested.
Security guarantees, of course, I am professional liar. We have been there before.

Yep. He is the most powerful person in the world at the moment. While its good that the modern world wont just go wild with tanks, it seems to have gone the other way, when good and right can be abused. Lets assume Putin takes Ukraine. The sanctions need to be permanent, but can be reviewed if and when a new governance occurs in Russia.
In the meantime, the slaughter continues
kingdragonfly: USA Today: Doesn't Ukrainian President Zelenskyy 'own a suit?' Economist asks and gets slammed on Twitter.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has gained respect for his social video posts in which he is plain-spoken and plainly dressed. He famously told the U.S. at the outset of Russia's invasion, "I need ammunition, not a ride."
But Zelenskyy's dressed-down approach was inappropriate, said Schiff, who is chief economist and president of investment firm Euro Pacific Capital.
"I understand times are hard, but doesn't the President of the Ukraine own a suit?"
It is my understanding that President Zelenskyy does in fact own a suit. He was saving it for Putin's funeral but cut it up instead for bandages for bleeding children.

The support is like "thoughts and prayers" (although a bit more valuable) but at the end is no more than what the world did back when Hitler took over whatever he wanted.

kingdragonfly: If the Russian police (the Ministry of Internal Affairs) arrest people holding blank paper and signs that literally says "two words", it shows their insecurity They clearly think there's something to be ashamed of.
Newsweek: Russia Arrests Multiple People for Holding Up Blank Signs
Russia Arrests Multiple People for Holding Up Blank Signsnti-war protesters in Russia are being detained by police for holding up blank posters as part of demonstrations protesting against President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
As mass demonstrations against Russia's invasion of Ukraine continue to intensify, a woman in in Nizhny Novgorod, in central Russia, was arrested on Sunday for protesting with a blank sign.
How hard would it be to get dozens of people to stand in front of the Russian embassy holding blank signs?
