A change in domestic policies in overseas countries gets a raised eyebrow, not much more. Things like not being able to keep the lights on in South Africa makes a country a laughing stock. This isn’t that.
Any chance you can just plant the goal posts wherever you want them to end up?

Sure. That’s what you and a number of others have been doing all through this thread.
No, we've been responding to your changing demands. Nobody reported on it - I gave you two reports. That's only two - someone else gave a shit ton of reports. Oh, but nobody has actually mentioned it to anyone on this thread - I showed you someone mentioning it to me. Oh, but that's someone mentioning it to you.

Looks like tax cuts are going to be spent on voluntary redundancy.
This could get quite expensive.
Never mind that in 'voluntary redundancy' you lose the most marketable skills and knowledge.
So hopefully as well as a life in private sector there will be a future pulling in consulting work if that's their choice.
Government accused of quietly expanding remit of public service cuts

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has confirmed it had offered its staff voluntary redundancy this month, having signalled the process late last year.

Luxon agreed to support Acts Treaty Referendum bill through the first reading to select committee. But despite being asked repeatedly by journalists he refuses to rule out continuing to support it thereafter, saying only that he had only guaranteed to ACT National would support it through to the first reading, and that he doesn't "know how we can be any clearer than that."
Today, he announced a "minor cabinet reshuffle". David Seymour is our new Associate Justice Minister with responsibility for the Treaty Principles Bill.
Why do we need a cabinet minister with special responsibility for a bill which we guarantee will never go further than select committee? Sounds like the kind of waste that ACT should hate.

Well, well, well. The IRD has refused my OIA request for the draft tax report, for the following reason:
Due to public interest, Inland Revenue intends to publish a copy of the report drafted to comply with the now repealed Taxation Principles Reporting Act 2023. The draft report will be published in early February 2024 on Inland Revenue’s tax policy website (taxpolicy.ird.govt.nz). Your request is therefore refused under section 18(d) of the OIA, as the information will soon be publicly available.
As the draft report was not finalised, it would have needed to be edited and finalised in its entirety.
We're all going to find out anyway, despite NAFT's best efforts to ensure it didn't see the light of day. And as far as wasted tax dollars goes - now they're wasting even more having to field so many OIA requests that they have decided to finish it and release it anyway. That's excellent management of my tax dollars, Chris. Well done.

I wonder if he would have had to field OIA requests when was running an airline? Serious question - it was owned by the government (at least, in part) for a while there, wasn't it?
Charlie Farley’s in Onetangi is a popular eatery. It has a bar and sells a good assortment of reasonably priced food. It also sells good coffee.
One morning during the weekend the line for coffee was out on the street and not very fast moving. Part way down the line stood our local bald-headed politician (the same one who has a luxury bach on our beach and drove his boat through a rahui because it wasn’t marked) with his bouncer. The Egg goes everywhere with him.
They were getting a tad impatient.
After a bit of muttering The Egg called out, “Would you serve us next, please?”
The barista is rumoured to be Argentinian. He answered, “Listen, Mate, I don’t know who you think you are, but you get served in line, just like everybody else.”
The room was full, everyone else knew who he was, a roar of laughter went up and within seconds there was a phone in every hand.
If the story isn’t true there’s a lot of lying coffee-drinkers on this island.

It would be nice if Luxon could override his coalition partners and take the measures outlined in this article. NZ would be a better place. Can't see it happening though with Winston 'ciggie' Peters and David 'don't ban anything' Seymour in tow.

"Five million disposable vapes are thrown away each week in the UK."
That is absolutely mind blowing!

What is nucking futs about this is the fact these disposable vapes have Lithium Ion batteries inside:
I note this is slightly off-topic but it's just crazy how these are not banned yet from an environmental standpoint also. Also really interesting watch on why disposable vapes now exist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLXcaAdzCpY (hint, blame the US).

Imagine how bad it is in the US. I saw an article on the BBC a while ago about how New York has a huge and expensive problem disposing of disposables. They have to be carted to a special processing facility some considerable distance from NY.
I can't imagine a huge amount of effort is put into the sourcing of quality batteries or the construction of the devices either. Seems like a (relatively) high risk of having a battery cook off at some point.

I'm pretty sure that has happened at least a few times. I think I remember seeing something about it.
