Some level-headed analysis of the DPRK issue:

 

 

Trump’s blasting of the Iran nuclear agreement in his UNGA speech is one of many indicators that the President wishes to abrogate that agreement by hook or crook. True, Pyongyang made clear soon after the Iran agreement was announced that it had no interest in a Korean counterpart agreement. But it will certainly notice if the US abrogates an agreement with another member of President Bush’s famous “axis of evil” after that country downgraded its nuclear capabilities and despite the fact that all objective observers agree that it is complying with the agreement. It is hard to find a better way to convince your adversary not to reach an agreement with you than to say “We will break agreements at will. Oh, by the way, we also have plans to utterly destroy your country.”

If this is a thread about what "Trump" wants. He wants to be seen as a hero. And be able to play golf all day.

 

In regards to North Korea. I genuinely think he doesn't want a war. But he is determined to "Fix a problem" that he believes Obama and previous administrations left for him. 

 

 

 

The problem, with Trump is no one knows what he is going to do next. The guy is insane. And I believe a lot of people in the USA (namely people who voted for him) are starting to see that.

Whats wrong with the US flying whatever it likes in International Airspace? Its call that so any country can use it!!

 

If you are insinuating that it is provocative....well lets look at firing missiles over japan and exploding nukes?

It was provocative, but I draw the line at the provocator and the provocatee. Unless we want to reward the provocator so he can do what he wants, as has proven to be the case.

Hope you're joking - but in case you're not, then:

 

1) Could be misinterpreted / mistaken by NK as an attack - so they'd launch a counter-attack.  (As it turned out - apparently the US had to announce the route of the B1B bomber run as there was no reaction from NK whatsoever - whether they weren't biting and pretended not to notice - or completely lack the ability to detect the B1Bs on radar is unknown).

 

2) The US can't seriously believe that they need to show NK their weapons.  KJU can access Wikipedia. He knows that if it came to war, NK would be obliterated,  Ummmm - that's why they have a nuclear programme (and chemical/biological weapons programme) - he also knows that the USA's B1 bombers can't stop that. 

 

3) Sure it's provocative - I hope you're not suggesting it wasn't.  I don't know if NZ has any "sworn enemies" let alone those that have an air force, but say a country that we're not entirely happy with -and who just threatened NZ with total destruction - decided to conduct military exercises including mock attacks on NZ, staying just outside NZ airspace - then as far as you're concerned, then that's okay, apparently.

 

Not excusing NK in any way, but that part of the US reaction is incredibly dumb.

Another way to look at it. One thing that has happened for years is NK do what they like, no matter what. It could be seen that if the US was passive, that NK will just ramp up what they want, as no opposition, so these exercises are just a reminder that the US is there and active, not a pushover, i.e. not the passive big bully that NK can forge ahead with ease.

 

If the US fired missiles that went over North Korea, all hell would break loose. But thats BAU for KJU, no big deal, no drama, normal. We have to remind ourselves, that despite the rampant anti US sentiment, what NK does is miles ahead of what the US does, the US reaction hardly ranks. NK has been allowed to get away with EVERYTHING, so from his point of view he has full control, as the US and UN etc are weak

All I'm saying is we have an issue in NK. We have an issue with Trump. They arent the same thing, but there is overlap, and the Trump bashing, while justified, doesnt allow a lot of impartial discussion on NK, as its all more about bashing the US. If Obama was in power, and KJU is doing the same things, it would be a very different discussion and less dramatic.
