Batman:

Could someone interpret (not whether you side or not, just interpret) this article? I'm not sure what it's trying to say.

Neither am I (sure what he's trying to say).

I think that the "countercultural revolution" of the 1960's gets misinterpreted and vastly overstated as a unified "popular uprising".  The closest thing the US got to a Hippie president was probably Jimmy Carter - almost a decade after Woodstock, and Carter was a Southern Baptist.

I had to google to remind myself who Hoffman was.  Trump will never be forgotten.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/27/opinion/abbie-hoffman-donald-trump.html

"Re 'The Abbie Hoffman of the Right,' by David Brooks (column, Sept. 26):

Calling the late Abbie Hoffman a buffoon and comparing him to President Trump sullies the reputation of a 1960s activist who was a leader of a youth movement that changed the course of American history.

Yes, Mr. Hoffman was a master of 'political theater,' but he was no buffoon. Mr. Hoffman took to the streets of a divided America, risking life and limb in opposition to the Vietnam War, racism and police brutality. He lived a simple, self-sacrificial life and faced trumped-up charges as a member of the Chicago Eight. What risks for his beliefs has President Trump taken?

PATRICK O’NEILL, GARNER, N.C."

He's risking impeachment and punishment - which could include jail time.

Impeachment (if it ever comes), will take a long time to happen. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Mueller's Russia probe hobbled soon, as he seems to be circling closer and closer.

Meanwhile Trump's waging war on the "Coastal Elites", which is firming up support with his core base. I hope the USA can recover quickly from the havoc and division this utterly deplorable man is laying in his path.

Only 26 month to go. An article on his proposed large tax cuts to middle income and wealthy, and company tax, mentioned how little he has done despite having control over the House and Senate. I'd call that a win. No wall, no trade tariffs and so on. If he wants to run a sideshow and not bother with all his promises, that's a good thing.

... provided that he doesn't accidentally start WW3 due to his random aggression, huge ego, and total lack of diplomatic skills.

Donald could best be described as a brabbling jargogled ludibrious jollux.
