I saw a very interesting interview with Michael Moore on PBS the other day. Moore of course is credited as one of the very few people who predicted Trump's election early on. Now he is predicting that Trump will likely also win re-election. He suggests that Trump is actually much more clever (and dishonest) than his enemies think. By constantly stirring up peripheral controversies, like his comments about there being good people on both sides of the riots, and his attacks on the NFL demonstrators, he is actually successfully distracting media attention from the issues that could really hurt him, like the suffering in Puerto Rico. Instead of focusing on actual issues, the media are aiming everyone's attention at a few kneeling protesters and other sideshows. Trump is doing an outstanding job of manipulating them.

Did this interview predate his weekend Twitter rant, where he attacked the Mayor of San Juan and the people of Puerto Rico?

I'm surprise he hasn't already signed an executive order to secure his position as lifetime president due to the threat of North Korea on the USA security

Moore also predicted he will start a war. Then all the 'liberal' media will jump on the patriotism bandwaggon like they did in Iraq and that will be his path to re-election. The interview did predate his latest rant but it is all part of the same strategy. Outrage people, distract the media, carry on laying your eggs.

Yeah, I see that as a very real risk. Many Americans do love it when their leaders start bombing people. Granted not all, but possibly enough to get Trump over the line again.

What the?

American Ambassador Scott Brown: "I said 'I'm sorry, Sir, with all due respect, it's not my president's tweets, it's the fact you have a leader, an isolated, desperate leader [Kim Jong Un], who's lobbing ICBMs [intercontinental ballistic missiles] and threatening to nuclearise them and basically attacking white people off the face of the earth, that's the issue'. Let's not get sidetracked here.

Is this Scott Brown guy what I think he is?

Edit: No. Stuff have posted a correction:

Clarification:

An earlier version of this story quoted Ambassador Brown saying Kim Jong Un was "basically attacking white people off the face of the earth".

This was incorrect. The full quote should have read: "It's not my president's tweets, it's the fact you have a leader, an isolated, desperate leader [Kim Jong Un], who's lobbing ICBMs [intercontinental ballistic missiles] and threatening to nuclearise them and basically attack and wipe people off the face of the earth, that's the issue'. Let's not get sidetracked here."

This has been updated in the story.

@geekIT:

If you're clicking links to the NYTimes (like this one - https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/26/opinion/abbie-hoffman-donald-trump.html) - and getting told you're blocked until you buy a subscription, copy the link instead of clicking it, then open Google, paste the link into the search box (not the URL bar) and hit Enter.

This effectively tells NYT that it's not just Joe Blogs trying to follow the link, it's Google. And because Google is way BIGGER bananas than Joe Blogs, the link goes through wink

If it doesn't work in one browser, try another. Although I've done this many times with Firefox, tonite it's not cooperating. But I can get to the page through Google in Internet Explorer.

This is actually not because "Google is way BIGGER". This is called First Click Free. From the linked article:

The very first article seen by a Google News user (identifiable by referrer) doesn't require a subscription. Although this first article can be seen without subscribing, any further clicks on the article page will prompt the user to log in or subscribe to the news site.

This is our preferred solution since it can benefit both our users and our publisher partners. It allows Googlebot to fully index your content, which can improve the likelihood of users visiting your site; and it allows users to view the article of interest while also encouraging them to subscribe.

It is possible to limit the number of free articles that a Google News reader can access via First Click Free. A user coming from a host matching [*www.google.*] or [*news.google.*] must be able to see a minimum of 3 articles per day. This practice is described as "metering" the user: when the user has clicked on too many of a publisher’s articles from Google News, the meter for freely accessible articles on that site is exhausted. If your site meters access on a weekly or monthly basis, you are still responsible for showing a minimum of three articles per day to Google users. Otherwise, your site will be treated as a subscription site.

Off topic, but @geekIT this policy was changed today as per this blog post.

Las Vegas shooting. Male, 64 year old, caucasian, Nevada resident.

Trump is quiet on Twitter. No mention of the ongoing tragedy which caused more than 50 deaths tonight. But if the perpetrator were dark skinned...

Trump is part of the problem, so don't expect him to say too much.

He'll be grieving about the potential political impact, and waiting for instructions about what to say from the NRA.

I wonder though....

This is a man that doesn't seem to actually have any firmly held political ideals. His raison d'être is to hear people tell him how wonderful he is. Perhaps they could have a "Trojan Republican" whisper in his ear about how he could finally be the president that fixed the gun problem in America.

A long shot I know, but I can't help thinking that Trump could possibly be trained if one could harness his ego.

I think so, just look at the recent deals with Schumer and Pelosi shutting out Ryan and McConnell. I think the Democrats have found a way to handle Trump.

Here's Trump on the campaign trail, in bed with the NRA

That should tell you all you need to know.
