Worse than when?

Today we're dealing with first world problems.

My grandparents were loosing family in world wars.

Technology saw an end to global physical war.

Then we saw a move to the mental space.

Now we're pushing back at that with laws targeting mental issues.

Millions of people all around the globe would beg to differ.

And so it starts.

"An Auckland primary school principal has complained of being cyber-bullied after she cancelled a "pirate day" at the school. An irate parent blogger took to the internet to rant about Helen Varney, who was appointed principal of Target Road primary last year, accusing her of ruining the school.

But Varney says the anonymous blogger's onslaught amounts to cyber-bullying and she is refusing to budge.

The standoff shows that it's not just children being victimised by online bullying, with school staff becoming targets of threats, malicious gossip and smear campaigns.

Online abuse or threats could soon land offenders with a fine or prison sentence under new anti-cyber-bullying plans announced last week.

"Because it goes out on the internet it reaches more people than it would if they were gossiping in the car park," Varney said.

"I refuse to read it [the blog], just as I refuse to listen to gossip at the school gate."

The blog amounted to cyber-bullying, she said."

It looks like I cant post links but finding the article on Stuff shouldnt present a problem.  Same goes for the blog itself.  See below.

How many here think warriorprincessnz is a cyber bully?  Would this go to Court under the new legislation?

I currently wonder if the biggest issue in the whole question is simply that people just don't take mental health issues seriously.

I just read over the ministers paper that Internet New Zealand sent out this afternoon.

I was very interested to note that under 'Disability considerations' there was nothing listed.

Many of us on the net know that people who are disruptive are often also those who have mental health disabilities, yet this isn't even being considered.

That could cut more ways than one Don.  Have you considered that many of the teens that have committed suicide supposedly because of bullying also have mental health issues but the truth never hit the light of day because of parental guilt?

No doubt you all remember tampon girl?  I still cant post a link but she supposedly committed suicide two days after her clip went viral yet she was so proud of it.  You cant tell me that she was a well adjusted teen.

I can't comment is warriorprincessnz is a bully as I haven't actually read the site.

http://home.bowenvale.co.nz/gz/Harmful%20Digital%20Communications%20-%20Cabinet%20paper.pdf

The test to apply is in item 54 on page 8.

You should also note item 58 on page 9 which clearly addresses issues of freedom of expression.

Based on your post alone, and having read the cabinet paper, I would suggest this would never get anywhere near a court room at its current point.

This is clearly a disagreement between parents and school staff about school activities that is being aired and discussed in an open forum by adults.

No I have no idea what you're talking about sorry.

I confess I haven't really being paying much attention to this issue.  I tend to get on board more once they start hitting my radar a bit harder than I think they should.

So does that diminish the fact that these young lives have been tragically taken?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

It should not diminish that fact, but it does serve to round out the debate.
