This is crazy, Its not NZ. 14yo is locked down in Riccarton High, 21yo has locked herself in at her friends  in Linwood, wife is on the way home. Can't do anything at all.

My wife is in lockdown in the CBD.  It's not safe for me to post details, as this is a coordinated act by alt-right groups who use social media widely, they're quite possibly scouring social media for information on where police activity etc is.  That's assuming that there are active shooters still at large.  Nobody seems to know.

She's scared sh*tless of course.  So am I, but safe at home.

I don't know jack snit about automatic weapons, but it looked to me like he had some serious fire power.

Reading commentary on another site (to keep an eye on trends and make sure things don't spill)... The conspiracy theorists are already out. The racists are jubilant.

What a poor excuse for human beings.

The gunman's video is not difficult to find on the internet. From that 16:56 long video, there must be at least thirty, yes, thirty people dead. I'm not kidding.

Poiice Mike Bush delays statement from 5pm to 5-30pm. Hopefully a positive development may be underway. No flying here, ChCh is now controlled airspace. Presumably to Police choppers. They seem to be going to all mosques, Northalands locked down also

There must be at least 3, as Riccarton, Hospital and Linwood were targeted. The arrest was south city

@Fred99

Release just now. No timeframe of school lockdown.

Wow he had some very serious fire power , very calculated in his actions and shootings, returning many times to the people in the corner of the room I would dare say that the toll is going to be very high. The poor lady in the street screaming for help and he just shot her is just unbelievable. This is just from seeing the video.

My thoughts go out to those effected today it has become a very very black day indeed in NZ.

I was in the area, heard the shots and bullets landing near me. Was very scary. Glad the guy didn't commit suicide.

I cannot understand why folks would search out and view the video of this, it seems to be be the worst sort of voyeurism or rubber necking. I find it revolting.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

From a desire to understand the event and what happened.

Personally I would make it freely available for all to watch - if you see even part of it you can't help but be appalled.
Yes I understand the concern about copycats and respect for the families, but maybe watching this might help people want to change things.
And so prevent things happening again. (That's the optimist in me speaking, can see the pessimistic view as well, but would hope for more good than harm.)

You have to be kidding, even only out of respect for the victims and their families that's a disgusting idea.

My Brother and his Wife live next door to a less prominent Mosque in Northcote, Auckland. I've just taken a very nervous call from him (he's away on business) and he wants them to stay at my parents tonight. I just encouraged him to stay calm, and told him his precaution is probably warranted, and to tell her to keep the house locked and keep a low profile.

I'll head to my parents tonight and keep her and the kids calm, and give them company.
