One possibility might be for Trump to simply walk away, leaving the world with the reality of a contested Strait of Hormuz. That would mean more expensive energy and a dangerous and more expensive passage for ships. Markets might adjust. But he would not be able to insulate the US from economic consequences — including the stock indexes he uses as a barometer of personal success.

Eventually, a lower volume of oil on the market could critically deplete reserve stocks. And ignoring the problem would enshrine an embarrassing defeat for the president and wreck global perceptions of US power. Iran could flaunt its prime leverage from the war in perpetuity.

He said we dont need their oil, not our problem. So why get involved???? Why add more people that have died under his watch?? Renee Good, Alex Pretti and now another one. The destruction of apparent drug boats, why not apprehend them? USAID and many so ons.

If you left Iran to the Middle East nations and EU/UK, people will make the Art of the Deal... Not easy, but not hard

The oil price is currently within 10% of the pre-covid average. The current issue is some countries did not want to use the passage desired by Iran. A few of those ships were reminded of the recommendation with some relatively small projectiles. There was no real damage to the vessels.

Even with Iran's proposed passage service fee adding a dollar a barrel in future the price is not a big deal.

UAE is building an additional pipeline to bypass Hormuz with completion in 2027. The strait will be even less an issue for the oil price. The MOU is a sensible solution to many issues.

Looks like it's all back on again.

US and Iranian forces have exchanged heavy missile and drone assaults, with Tehran targeting US facilities in states across the Gulf on Sunday and saying it had again closed the vital Strait of Hormuz.

The strikes were the latest in a cycle of attacks and counter-attacks as Iran seeks to assert control over shipping through the strait. However, the barrage marked an escalation in pace and range.

Negotiation has continued during many phases of this war. The parties know that these issues eventually must be resolved. A diplomatically acceptable navigation service fee is an obvious way forward and naturally consistent with developments so far. Trump is not keen on that and has no doubt been working against that for the moment.

There are a few YT videos from independent content creators claiming various opinions.

One I watched claimed that the work had not been done properly, and thus should be fixed under warranty.

Someone came up with the idea that if vandalism was deemed to be the nature of the damage instead of poor workmanship, then the company that did the supposedly faulty work would not need to re-do the work at their cost as a warranty claim, rather, they could re-do it, and be paid, again, by the US taxpayers.

Like the smaller nation Ukraine, Iran will remain present, they don't need major arms to make the Strait a problem
