I'd like to think, that they did the right thing in the end and possibly, and hopefully learned from it, so next time they will handle it better.

People are human, they make mistakes, even bad ones sometimes, not everything has to be about horrifically punishing every mistake.

More like 20th Century New Zealand. It's only in the 21st century school uniform rules have started to relax on cultural issues like this, and perhaps the schools that were strictest to begin with are taking longer. It's good to see the stragglers are finally moving.

It seems to me that in light of last Fridays events that tolerance and togetherness applies to all religions. There is no compulsion to believe and with that maybe posting comments like the highlighted just need not be said in a public forum.

@nathan For what it's worth, to me your comments come across as sarcastic mocking of those who hold religious beliefs. While I agree that it should be possible to challenge religious beliefs, I think it should be in the context of a respectful discussion and with the recognition that people base their lives on the beliefs that are being challenged. Some sensitivity would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a deep, almost instinctive, contempt for school uniforms. I am aware of the justification that they prevent stigmatisation of poor children by forcing everyone to look the same, but I think that argument is undermined by their expense, which is right up there with the most ostentatious of any fashionable class-conscious gear. Their real purpose is to crush individuality and churn out unquestioning worker cogs for the corporate behemoth. They are a direct descendant of the disgusting British class system. Everyone must look the same. Boys can't have long hair and girls can't cut it short. Other countries do just fine without them. I detest them and see them as nothing more than an anachronistic throwback that has no place in a modern society. I wish they could all be banned and the fossils who insist on them retired to dribble on their bibs.

Generally it involves cutting, using gas or abrasive methods, the firearms into small enough parts that cannot be used again as a weapon. Once done, sorted into plastic, steel and aluminium and taken to a scrap metal dealer.

Are you folks not paying attention or just trolling? I already put someone in the cooler for a week. I asked not to discuss the gun ban law in this thread.

I think that having these sort of tone deaf issues made public is actually doing a lot of good. It makes all of us consider our own actions. It was pretty dumb by Dio and their discomfort will encourage other organizations to be a bit more considered in their actions.

We live in Dubai, which is pretty obviously an Islamic country. It's a very moderate islamic country but still has sharia law for the islamic population. It's not a democratic country so some different rules apply here regarding the press etc.

What I have found great here is the lack of reactionary nonsense that has been in the media directed at New Zealand. If the shoe was on the other foot I can imagine the Leighton Smiths of the world ramping up their dog whistling about islam. There really hasn't been anything like that.

Yesterday was international day at school. My kids and wife went with chin Ta Moko and wearing their NZ and All Blacks clothes. A lot of the parents didn't realise we were from NZ and my wife got a huge amount of support from the parents about Christchurch. A lot of them are islamic and it was really amazing how non-judgemental they were of what happened and only wanted to offer support.
