That is indeed a worth watch (and read). This is quite worrisome too: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/stuff-circuit/300660552/antivax-group-wanting-to-make-nz-ungovernable-targets-local-body-elections
I'm going to really scrutinise people running at my local body elections this year. I don't want these clowns getting in, at all.

That was a very hard, but incredibly worthwhile watch, especially as we know people who've fallen a long way down this rabbit hole. You can actually understand how they've been targeted and pulled in by some of the messaging. Sadly they'll never watch this as they no longer trust any of the mainstream media, and in particular anything from Stuff.
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
Yep, just had Sue Grey's page come up (somehow) in my Facebook feed, and all her followers are very unhappy that they didn't even speak to her. Most of them trotting out the same tired old lines of "oh, she speaks the truth" and "don't trust the mainstream media" as well as "they should sue Stuff for defamation"...although I don't what grounds that would be on.
I know a person who believes a lot of those conspiracies. Insists that COVID is an intentional lab leak to destroy Western economies and governments the world over are collaborating to form a New World Order to control everyone (refuses to accept that getting every government in the world to agree on which way to hang toilet paper at events is a herculean effort, let alone the literal wholesale reform on society - just changes tack to "key players" but won't identify who they are. Also can't identify why any government would care about controlling every individual to that level of minute detail). Tries to link to Youtube videos called things like "Cult of COVID". Refuses to accept alternative information because mainstream media can't be trusted, yet somehow random Youtube conspiracy theorists and blogs can. Insists that if you don't believe the conspiracies, you're incapable of rational thought and are a "Coincidence Theorist".
The only viable thing to do is avoid getting into COVID discussions with them.

Oh great. I'm sure this is going to be pleasant 🙄

From the article:
None of this is helped by the extremist lurch in Tamaki's own rhetoric. At a recent Freedom and Rights Coalition (FRC) protest, Tamaki outlined his hopes for the August 23 protest.
"We're going to set up a court session on the steps of Parliament - the people's court it's going to be called," he said, before going on to describe a mock trial in which he would prosecute government ministers for crimes against humanity.
This is part of the sovereign citizen conspiracy theory, which posits (among other things) that the New Zealand Government is illegitimate and supporters are exempt from New Zealand law. Sovereign citizens plan to (or already have) set up a fully alternative judicial and law enforcement system, giving them fictional legal backing for the arrest, prosecution and execution of anyone they feel slighted by.
Overseas, sovereign citizens have murdered police officers. In New Zealand, they have threatened vaccinators and other healthcare workers, as well as judicial staff and notaries. Hattotuwa says the movement is inherently violent.
Why is that "church" still a "church" and tax exempt? Enough with this kid of shit.

Maybe he'll be rained out and only about 15 people will turn up. But remember, he "speaks for all New Zealanders"...somehow?
"Mock" is right - they deserve all the mockery they get! Get over yourself Brian, you're not even half as special or important as you think you are.
Some good news this morning. One down, a far few more to go though...

A good article from David Farrier about the conspiracy theorists in NZ. Would be good to see this updated, post-the Parliament grounds occupation: a number of the people mentioned in here were involved with this.

David is about as bad in different ways as those he writes about. He hates Peter Mortlock. David makes sweeping statements without giving any references, and rather than make a constructive argument just belittles people who don't hold his views. I don't disagree with a lot of what he says, but he comes across as a venomous nasty sort of person, not someone I'd wish to associate with.
