In my opinion, he's garbage.

A deplorable.

Unfortunately, he is very rich and capable of influencing change at high levels.

Still garbage.

I was surprised by a photo of a cybertruck the other day. It was unexpected so I didn't have time to prepare myself. The result was a sense of shock, like suddenly seeing a funnel web spider on a toilet seat. That thing is really, really ugly. It is also really tacky. I think I can see what was trying to be achieved with it, but it just comes across as cheap and bizarre. In 20 years when most have dissolved into piles of pointy rust, any survivors may become worth something as rare quirky reminders of a weird failed vision, like the Edsel, only worse. Right now they are just stupid.

Right now the Cybertruck is the most popular EV pickup truck in the US.

There is no accounting for taste I guess. From some things I have seen it seems to suffer from poor build quality. And I still think it is really ugly.

For someone who hates the US government, Musk business acumen would be closer to his friend's Trump without all the free money.

New York Times: The big number, 45%: Tesla’s drop in profit in the second quarter.

Tesla on Tuesday reported a 45 percent decline in profit in the second quarter of 2024. The drop from the same period a year ago was the latest example of the auto maker’s weak sales of electric vehicles and a sign that its investments in emerging technology could take many years to pay off.

Things have been topsy-turvy for Tesla in recent months. While shares of the company are down this year, they jumped for a while in June on hopes that Tesla would transform into an artificial intelligence company that operates a driverless taxi service and sells robots for manufacturing and other tasks.

Tesla did have some positive news to report. In the second quarter, the company sold nearly $900 million in regulatory credits to other automakers that need them to meet emissions standards. That was up from around $300 million a year ago. And battery system sales doubled from 2023 to $3 billion.

But overall sales of the company’s electric cars have slowed [And Musk can't shut his pie hole.] They fell nearly 5 percent in the second quarter, while production declined around 14 percent, to about 411,000 cars.

It seems that being a little famous gets you no better service from X.

LTT gets hacked again and loses control of their X account.
Linus has same trouble as anyone getting X's attention.

Despite the obvious if they look up what the hacker is posting on X Linus just got fob off message, everything is good.

Suppose firing 80% of your staff is not all good, and there are many things X should and could be doing.
Outlined in video below, but I suppose those staff don't exist.

Elon is too busy trying to start a revolution in UK , and getting a dictator elected in USA.

So LTT got this.

"Thanks for reaching out to us, We've investigated your report and it seems like still have control of your account.

LinusTechTips Twitter Account Hacked (and how to secure yourself)
John Hammond
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8SnlJCUleM

It is apparently resolved by time video posted, but speed and processes, and way X works clunky it appears.

Wow, LTT gets hacked eh. Nothing of importance was lost then. Linus is just a glorified salesperson.

Real geeks prefer Level1Techs. Wendell is way better than Linus ever will be.

If you're "famous" and have a social media profile then, getting hacked is to be expected.

Linus should not complain about anyones security after his own virus scanning systems at LTT let a 600MB PDF through without being checked.

LTT, Yeh Human factors your biggest vulnerability.

Meantime

Cybertruck going global.

Chechnya President Ramzan Kadyrov invited Tesla CEO Elon Musk to Russia on Saturday after being filmed behind the wheel of one of the company’s Cybertrucks mounted with a machine gun.

""
Kadyrov, who was sanctioned by the U.S. after being linked to numerous human rights violations, said he received the truck from Musk, although this was not independently confirmed. Messages left with Tesla seeking comment were not immediately returned.

Elon should be expelled from the USA (and citizenship revoked if he's got one) for breaking sanctions and aiding a Russia-aligned tinpot dictator nation.

Elon's dumbest suit yet (suing advertisers)

"Did you know that it's illegal not to pay Elon Musk money?

Yes, when a billionaire buys a social media platform, the law says you must advertise on that platform. Even if you're not an advertiser, you have to find a way to advertise.

This is due to a little known provision of the Communications Decency Act. I'm sorry, I don't make the rules, but this is America, where we absolutely love compelled speech.

Okay, all of that was completely untrue, but what is true is that Elon Musk has declared war on advertisers because they hurt his feelings.

Musk: 'We tried being nice for two years and got nothing but empty words. Now it's war.'

Musk, who is a self-described champion of free speech and free markets previously told advertisers that if they didn't like the new regime, they could get the f__k out.

Musk :'If somebody's gonna try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money, go F-__k yourself'

But that was, of course, eight long months ago, and Musk didn't anticipate that all the advertisers would just pick up their ball and go home.

Now, Musk believes it's totally illegal for a business not to give him money. Musk and Twitter sued the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, or GARM, a coalition of advertisers, for violating antitrust laws by coordinating with brands to discourage advertising on Twitter.

Serious media here in Germany simply call him ‘talking head’ after the Trump ‘interview’.
