Coil: The entire website 4chan is now blocked in New Zealand!

No, it is not.

Appears to be? I can only access it via a VPN. Unless JasonParis Vodafone blocked it themselves?

Mike Bush: 4 arrested, unaware of others, there could be

3 men one woman

A number of bombs attached to vehicles

All ChCh police will be fully armed for now, possibly this goes nationwide, as they cannot confirm this is not a national issue.

I cannot understand why folks would search out and view the video of this, it seems to be be the worst sort of voyeurism or rubber necking. I find it revolting.

From a desire to understand the event and what happened.

Personally I would make it freely available for all to watch - if you see even part of it you can't help but be appalled.
Yes I understand the concern about copycats and respect for the families, but maybe watching this might help people want to change things.
And so prevent things happening again. (That's the optimist in me speaking, can see the pessimistic view as well, but would hope for more good than harm.)

I sincerely hope that is not the view of our community as a whole. If you need to understand what is happening watch the news and listen to the police press statements

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I am NOT officially empowered to talk about this but I want to shut down any conjecture right now.

No actions of Spark taken now or over the next 24 hours or so should be considered representative of policy. They may turn out to be temporary, they may even with hindsight not be considered the best move. However the number of direct links going around to certain sites and threads where some truly horrific and almost certainly illegal material was being hosted met a threshold for immediate and extraordinary action. We're killing the DNS entries for a couple of sites.

I should note that this had approval from the highest levels, and we're not the only ISP doing this.

Right now is where we all get a chance to demonstrate our humanity in the face of a terrible tragedy. Reach out and help people. I know many people in Chch and around the country that are in shock. I know I am - and I know there are hundreds or thousands of people that are directly massively impacted by this today.

At some point in the near future we'll evaluate what to roll back. But not today.

Cheers - Neil Gardner

Speaking only for myself, I'd rather be informed about what actually happened, versus the sanitised and censored version the media serve up to us.

The video is sickening. It looked like a goddamn first person shooter video game. I had to keep reminding myself that it was an actual event.

Hi. Industry players are working at a technical level now to block some of the hate sites involved in this content. Cheers Jason

Liveleak still functional for me a few mins ago. On vodafone 47.x.x.x range in central Auckland (Mt Eden exchange I think.)

4chan is not resolving. A good start... Hopefully there's no one left not arrested in other parts of the country, who were part of this actual white supremacist terror cell. This was obviously planned carefully, and possibly ongoing.

Let's all stay safe, try not to clog the phonelines, and keep an eye out for our loved ones and neighbors.

Arbitrary internet censoring without any notification is very concerning regardless of the severity of the event

edit: especially when sites like facebook and twitter where the video was livestreamed and still exists are untouched
