CENTCOM oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East.

Other Secretary of Defense War have complained about vague objectives, restrictive rules of engagement

But none have used the framing “dumb wars”, “politically correct wars”, “maxed-out authorities”.

This is new, much more political, rhetorical, combative, ideological, closer to campaign-style messaging.

I asked Chatgpt to compare his statement with the "frat-bro"/Chad style. It said
  • Dominance signaling ✔
  • Boasting ✔
  • Swagger ✔
  • Blunt language ✔
  • Punchy lines ✔
  • Enemy-destruction framing ✔ (partial)
  • Slang / bro-vernacular ✖
===========
Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense War.
"The dumb, politically correct wars of the past were the opposite of what we're doing here.

They had vague objectives with restrictive minimalist rules of engagement. No more.

Our authorities, [Trump's] authorities, CENTCOM's authorities through the president and myself are maxed out.

Our capabilities are overwhelming and gathering still, as are those of our Israeli partners.

Our munitions are full up and our will is ironclad, which means our timeline is ours and ours alone to control."
===========
Another quote: "An American submarine sunk an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters.

Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo. Quiet death.

The first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War II. Like in that war back when we were still the War Department. We are fighting to win."

US considers lifting more sanctions on Russian oil as Iran conflict sees global prices surge

A hypotetical scenario:

Putin: Here is the thing. We need to free some of the potential money we have, ready to go. Perhaps there's something that you could do, that at the same time reduces the supply of oil and increases the price, while justifying lifintg those pesky sanctions.

Trump: Leave with me. I will work with Israel to start a war that will solve your problem.

Putin: I knew this would be easy. I don't want to release those videos yet.

kingdragonfly:The first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War II.

The ARA General Belgrano was sunk before during the Falklands War.

What the Trump 2.0 administration does not understand is that there is a time after a war when former combatants have to pick up the pieces and live together.
The Geneva Conventions and Laws of Armed Conflict exist because time does not stop.

Netanyahu already has an outstanding ICC arrest warrant, the courtesy could be extended to Trump and Hegseth.

Trump and Hegseth also swore an oath to uphold the US constitution, alas the current US congress has no intention of holding them accountable, they are also a rogue/lawless nation.

I didn't bother debunking Pete Hegseth, because he started with "The dumb, politically correct wars of the past"

"Politically correct wars" meaning wars with rules and limits.

Out the window with rules of engagement, civilian protections, international law.

Brutality or reckless escalation is not only OK, but "max" coolness is required from El general militar.

We're just lucky the hundreds of recent earthquakes near Tonopah Test Range / "Area 52" / Nevada National Security Site are of natural origin, and not nuke tests.

Trump and company want war without rules, and they think that’s cool. That’s terrifying.

Kurds only when USA does not want to get its boots dirty.

Inside the Kurdish Resistance Fighters Attacking Iran

The video title is misleading. There is no indication Kurdish fighters have crossed the border at this time.

Trump clearly wants Kurdish elements to get involved and Trump has clearly not prepared anything.

They appear to be in some kind of negotiation phase at present.

Reuters - Trump rejects settling war with Iran, raises notion of eliminating all its potential leaders

BEIRUT / MIAMI / TEL AVIV / DUBAI, March 7 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday raised the possibility of the war against Iran ending only once that country no longer has a functioning military or any remaining leadership in power.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said he is not interested in negotiating with Iran at this point and later added the air campaign could make it a moot point if all potential ‌leaders of Iran are killed and the Iranian military is destroyed.

"At some point, I don't think there will be anybody left maybe to say 'We surrender,'" Trump said.

EDIT

The Washington Post - Intel report warns large-scale war ‘unlikely’ to oust Iran’s regime

A classified report by the National Intelligence Council found that even a large-scale assault on Iran launched by the United States would be unlikely to oust the Islamic republic’s entrenched military and clerical establishment, a sobering assessment as the Trump administration raises the specter of an extended military campaign that officials say has “only just begun.”

The nuance is explained by Civ Div in video.

Kurds have been fighting for themselves all the time. All day every day.
Iran IRGC paramilitary forces have pursed them in Iraq. So fighting is in Iraq.
Specifically, PJAC Kurds that were forced out of Iran, their home by above forces.

So they are stuck with difficult balance of receiving support that may evaporate any time.
While not getting drawn into some greater conquest plan that will leave them overstretched, betrayed when that support disappears.

Also KDPI (Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran), and KOMALA Iranian Kurd groups not mentioned.

Apparently Iranian attacks on Kurds intensified after the 2022 Mahsa Amini protests, and as public protests grew. IRGC has pretty much run with an iron hand. Kurdish majority regions of Iran where there maybe some public protest but heavily suppressed.

Breaking Points channel is unusual because it combines left‑populism and right‑populism.

In summary a distrust of establishment power, skepticism of mainstream media, and a belief that both US major parties serve elites over voters. (which ain't wrong)

Lindsey Graham mentioned Section 230 below because he was brushing off an unrelated domestic policy debate on Big Tech liability reform.

Lindsey Graham: Iran is "HOLY WAR!" to Remake Middle East

Presenter: I'm just going to run through a bunch of things that have just happened on the American Christian nationalist side ...

Lindsey Graham: This is a religious war. Who wins it at the end of the day? To the radical Islamic terrorist who want to kill all the Jews because God told them to, who want to kill me because I'm an infidel, who want to purify Islam, uh, to reject moderation and make everybody a jihadist? This is a big deal. I'll deal with section 230. So what we're facing right now is a moment of decision that will set the course of the future of the Middle East for a thousand years. It's a religious war

Speaker Mike Johnson: They have been and they say the quiet parts out loud. They wanted to wipe Israel off the face of the earth and they'd like to take us out as well. We're the great Satan in their analogy and their and their misguided religion and there was no way to appease them.

Senator Kramer: the United States and Israel are ironclad partners. We need them in the Middle East. We need them to be strong. We have a biblical responsibility to them as well as an allied responsibility. Israel. We should never we should never sever that relationship.

Just like the Israelis did in Gaza, using "Lavender" to choose men who were "linked to Hamas" and other AI-powered systems to predict when they would be at home so a precision bomb could take out them and their entire family all in one hit.

Cooper rejects Blair’s call for UK to have backed Trump’s strikes on Iran

Lord Blair of Kut al-Amara thinks that the UK special relationship should supersede the United Nations and International Law.

If anything, the current situation shows how diminished status of the UK is, especially since both Suez and Brexit.

As Churchill said, the US will do the right thing when it has exhausted the other options.

Apparently Blair is on the Board of Peace

The NY Times - Opinion - Trump’s Fantasy Is Crashing Down  (unlocked link)

March 6, 2026

A longform article, worth reading.

Introduction:

In Donald Trump’s fantasy world, America is invincible and impregnable.

Its military is so advanced and skillful that it can pluck a sitting head of state from a hostile country and deposit him in a New York City jail cell without losing a single soldier.

It can slap punitive tariffs on any nation it likes, abandon longstanding alliances on a whim, bomb any country at any time and freely blow up boats it may suspect of carrying drugs.

America’s awesome power means it is unfettered by any rules, untroubled by any consequences.

As an unfathomably rich and sprawling nation, blessed by geography and protected from its enemies by two vast oceans, why shouldn’t it do what it will? ...
