https://archive.ph/OIRZn >> here we go again, Luxon and co banging on about what a "terrible" job the last government did.
For context (and also because I can't quite remember) did Jacinda and co harp on endlessly about how useless National were after she became PM in 2017? Or did she not say much about them at all?
Sorry, I guess I'm just getting tired of hearing this endless drumbeat from Luxon about all the nothing the last lot apparently did as he undoes it all, yet he doesn't seem to have any solutions or alternatives ready-to-go to replace whatever it is he's getting rid of.

Unlike now she had no grounds to make those types of claims.

The Key government did a pretty good job after the 2008 GFC. Granted it wasn't as bad in NZ as it was in some other places with looser regulations, but they managed it well just the same.

"That’s about half of our current GDP" ? Seems an odd measure.
Booking a new Auckland Harbor crossing and other projects as an 'immediate expense' is a bit rich?
Its like complaining about a cars maintenance over the next decade as though I had to pay for it up front.
https://www.interest.co.nz/public-policy/123472/government-touts-four-multi-billion-dollar-tunnels-under-waitemata-harbour
""
Overall the plan will take decades to complete and will cost tens of billions of dollars.
Construction on the vehicle tunnels has a targeted start date of 2029 and will cost as much as $15 billion dollars. It would run between the central Auckland motorway junction and Akoranga on the North Shore.
The light rail tunnels would likely be built later and would cost $11 billion, plus another $16b to extend the line from Takapuna to Albany. The full package could cost up to $45 billion.
""
Staging makes total project cost more flexible, rail can be delayed as needed as last bit.
Unfortunately as these things go even cancelled
Its not like you roll up with suitcases of cash and put all the money down upfront.
Bridge was said to be untenable as only link in a decade or so given growth of Auckland.
Even less if its windy.

We had Labour Ministers still pushing the 'nine long years of neglect' deep into their second term which really underscores how much neglect they managed to cram into six years to get vastly worse outcomes than we had in 2017.
Gotta admire that kind of hustle though.
Also, $200b is probably a big reach using the absolute widest confidence intervals for spending but when you start looking at a single light rail line to the South East being $30b and Harbour tunnels being tens of billions without breaking a sweat, it adds up pretty quickly.
The real criticism of this as a talking point is not so much it was unfunded, more that it was pie-in-the-sky make-good-news crapola that never going to happen and was being used as a government who needed something, anything to announce to appear future focused, lest the proles talk too much about the things going wrong in the here and now.
We simply couldn't afford for it to actually be built regardless of how unserious the government was when they announced it and that's the bit people need to start saying out loud. It looks like Wayne Brown has the same thinking, a fraction of that money on the right projects in the right places does far more good than gold plating a single North-South link though the city.

Sounds good, where can I find one of these? 😄

In the 9 years everything went backwards due to neglect. Same has applied to other previous Governments. While 2017 onwards had a couple of "issues", its got to a breaking point where there are accurate claims that we have a lot of things to fix, and arguably its too late due to the time and cost of catchups. Take Kiwibuild as one example. Great idea, but it was too late as housing had already gone past the tipping point of affordability. Now we need more schools more teachers more hospitals more medical professions more infrastructure in Auckland AND elsewhere. None of this will happen, aside from tickling the edges in election campaigns

It appears to be a common issue globally. Perhaps the need to appease voters with policies that assist financial or other personal benefits, has caused reduced spending on the big sectors. Then the appeased voters now are not happy about the state of these big sectors

No, I'm sure it was simply that Jacinda Ardern was far more evil (and powerful!) than even the cookers suspected.

Up until last week, so many stories on social media calling for the current govt(besides being called far right, anti woke, white supremecists/KKK affiliations) to support Gaza cause, stand up to US and call for ceasefire etc.
It looks like govt did just that few days ago and no stories on that other than a 2min update clip from the news.
I wonder if it means the same govt is no longer subject to those allegations now that they are calling for ceasefire, Winny P publicly stating the situation is horrible and Israel is doing the worst etc.
Dunno, politics always confuses me!

People seem to want to make everything extreme - probably because outrage is more polarising.
I'd not call our current government (as of today) far-right, white supremacist, and I don't see a KKK affiliation.
Some people just want to see the world burn - if it's for their "just cause", then everything is fair play.

They are definitely anti-woke, and they are the furthest right in decades. Calling them "white supremacists" is probably a step too far but given the Treaty Principles bill and all the other anti-Māori stuff they are doing, I can see why some people might have that impression.
They also claim to be serious about climate change & conservation, but they killed off the climate recovery fund to use for tax cuts to landlords, they killed the EV rebates / polluter fees (and they are looking suspiciously at the rest of the scheme as well), they are restarting oil & gas exploration, 'Goodbye Freddy' Jones wants to throw out the cameras and restart bottom trawling, they are doing away with regulations and putting more decision-making power directly into the hands of ministers (although it's not like any of them have direct links to or took large donations from the tobacco, oil or fishing industries) ...
You could be forgiven for thinking to yourself that these all seem more like the actions of someone who does not care about climate change or conservation than someone who does.
They may not be a duck, but their duck costume shows quite some attention to detail and they do a really good 'quack' impression.
