thinkingtrex8848:

I watched a youtube video on this but cannot remember more details but RNZ, Aoteroa Collective and lot of TV1 are fairly reliant on previous govt's funding initiatives and getting nervous about their funding running out this year which is understandable why they are getting a little antsy.

I get why this current govt's anti maori and anti woke policies should be publicly criticised, but if MSM doesn't do it in a subtle way, common folks are just going to get frustrated and start to believe MSM is clearly funded by the Left(even though this isn't true).

RNZ is a Crown entity and TVNZ is 100% owned by the New Zealand government.

They both have been funded by all previous governments (TVNZ does have commercial revenues), not only "previous govt's funding initiatives",

Why should media do things in a "subtle way"? Can't the government take questions? Hard decisions should be questioned hard.

I am not sure "youtube video" is the best source of information about this.

Why MSM should be subtle?
I’ve given my reason/very uneducated loose opinion why- “ but if MSM doesn't do it in a subtle way, common folks are just going to get frustrated and start to believe MSM is clearly funded by the Left(even though this isn't true).”

Do common folks get frustrated because the government they back is being questioned on their actions?

That's stupid because governments should always be questioned. There must always be checks and balances.

An unquestioned government is a danger to society.

Unquestionable obedience to a government is not healthy for the country. Blind nationalism leads to bad decisions and choices.

I’m not saying don’t question, but there’s only so many times they can ask a “loaded” question or ask the same questions over and over again in the same 20 minute post cabinet conferences before regular people just get frustrated.

If you haven’t seen those or noticed the media behaviour I’m referring to, then please feel free to ignore my arguments.

I agree with everything you are saying, I’m just saying regardless of what GZers who I believe are fairly techie and at least slightly more critical thinkers than regular folks can see through politics.

Yes, that's nothing new. Like those daily COVID-19 meetings. The same questions three or four times in a single meeting.

So, from that point-of-view, the media does this with whichever party is in government. And yes, it's annoying.

Ugh... "Some people are saying that 5G causes COVID. Is that true, Prime Minister?"

"No, Tova."

"But don't you think it's worth asking the question?"

"No, Tova."

tdgeek:

Kiwibuild, house prices and building was already too high. Then many of them were recycled existing builds. Why? Because builds were already too costly. Good idea but should have been done in previous Nat Govt and previous Lab govt

It was being done. By National. Under a housing accord in a development that was initiated by Labour under Clark, incidentally. But it didn't stop Labour harranging National about how they were doing nothing and Labour's plan was so much better, only for the Axis program to continue delivering more houses than Kiwibuild could manage for the first couple of years. You know, until they started buying existing housing stock from developers and sticking their name on it, which just shrunk the number of properties available to FHBs outside of Kiwibuild.

So if National 'did nothing' then by definition the Labour government somehow managed to do even less after blowing their own trumpet about it repeatedly in back-to-back elections. Quite the achievement really.

Haven't seen this mentioned here yet, but some commentary on Luxon leaving promptly after coming up against some protesters at the Big Gay Out.

There's the old dad joke that goes that the dyslexic atheist sold his soul to Santa.

What we have here is a dysfunctional aviationist who sold his soul to Seymour.

Surely reality was more than just “coming against some protestors”
The videos I saw on TV was clearly aggressive activism- fair enough it’s a free country, the gay community spokesperson said of course gay community always had the history of activism and justified them yelling shouting at the Prime Minister because current govt is taking away gender studies etc.

Another opinion piece I noticed tonight re National getting rid of the ferry plan...but without a Plan B to fall back on:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/tide-starts-to-turn-on-nicola-willis-over-kiwirails-cook-strait-mega-ferries-opinion/Y34AG3V6ZVFO7PPFS4KEMKHYM4/

What have they proposed instead, anyway?

It's not up to National to propose anything. It's now up to Kiwirail to come up with alternatives that won't explode in cost.

Also, comedy answer: probably tunnels.

Weren't the protests all to do with Palestine / Israel, not the rainbow community?

In my experience, the rainbow community are generally more concerned with injustice and discrimination - being much more likely than average to experience it themselves on a daily basis - than rebuilding the economy and law and order. So it's possible that one or two of the Gaza protestors were from the rainbow community.

Does it really matter, though?
