Does it not change the narrative?

The rainbow community bullying him out for policies against them is completely different than pro palestine protestors hijacking the Big Gay Out day and bullying him out. It could be argued that by the pro palestine protesters taking the action they did, the rainbow community lots its opportunity to engage directly with Luxon.

I wasn't there and only saw limited coverage on 3 news, so quite happy to be corrected on the events of the day

In my experience, the rainbow community are generally more concerned with injustice and discrimination - being much more likely than average to experience it themselves on a daily basis - than rebuilding the economy and law and order. So it's possible that one or two of the Gaza protestors were from the rainbow community.

100% agree - I went to two funerals towards end of last year to mourn tragic loss of lives of very young promising smart guys, struggle of that community is as real as anything even in a liberal country like NZ.

Heartbreaking stuff to find out what they have to go through in less liberal countries.

I hope Hamas appreciates that gay community standing up and fighting for them and and maybe think about potentially following West Bank's policies on homosexuality.

"Homosexuality in the Palestinian territories is considered a taboo subject; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people experience persecution and violence. There is a significant legal divide between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, with the former having more progressive laws and the latter having more conservative laws. Shortly after the Jordanian annexation of the West Bank in 1950, same-sex acts were decriminalized across the territory with the adoption of the Jordanian Penal Code of 1951. In the Egyptian-occupied Gaza Strip and under Hamas's rule, however, no such initiative was implemented."

Hamas direction is not liberalism, more the dictatorship of 'their' party of god and sharia courts.
They suppress civil rights in general, only authority can be Hamas.

Their main sponsor Iran, their religious leadership, women, LGBTQ and civil rights in general either.
Moving to women being unable to travel without a male relative and many other things.

Torture of LGBTQ

According to UN Watch’s report, LGBTQ persons living under the Palestinian Authority and Hamas control suffer “severe persecution and ostracism.”

Gay Palestinians who managed to escape recount harrowing torture by PA and Hamas forces, including often successful attempts to coerce them to inform on others, forced marriages, and death threats.

“They arrested me, hanged me from the ceiling, beat me up and interrogated me for five days,” said a gay Gaza Palestinian now living in exile in Turkey.

“Everyone is afraid of everyone. Some have been punished, some have been killed. Others killed themselves,” said another gay man from Gaza.

You are right, 0.01 isn’t good enough, that was a stupid comment from me.

But it is also too early to say that the promised tax calculator amounts are not going to be delivered. Luxon keep saying they’ve only just started.

I didnt say that, I said the Tax Cut Policy wont be delivered.

Kiwibuild, house prices and building was already too high. Then many of them were recycled existing builds. Why? Because builds were already too costly. Good idea but should have been done in previous Nat Govt and previous Lab govt

It was being done. By National. Under a housing accord in a development that was initiated by Labour under Clark, incidentally. But it didn't stop Labour harranging National about how they were doing nothing and Labour's plan was so much better, only for the Axis program to continue delivering more houses than Kiwibuild could manage for the first couple of years. You know, until they started buying existing housing stock from developers and sticking their name on it, which just shrunk the number of properties available to FHBs outside of Kiwibuild.

So if National 'did nothing' then by definition the Labour government somehow managed to do even less after blowing their own trumpet about it repeatedly in back-to-back elections. Quite the achievement really.

In that case we can wait for National to fix the housing crisis, I'm good with that...

I thought they are both the same? Maybe I misunderstood - https://www.national.org.nz/delivering_tax_relief

Tax Cut Policy is the same as Tax Relief Back Pocket Boost like it says on that page with the calculator?

Another opinion piece I noticed tonight re National getting rid of the ferry plan...but without a Plan B to fall back on:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/tide-starts-to-turn-on-nicola-willis-over-kiwirails-cook-strait-mega-ferries-opinion/Y34AG3V6ZVFO7PPFS4KEMKHYM4/

What have they proposed instead, anyway?

It's not up to National to propose anything. It's now up to Kiwirail to come up with alternatives that won't explode in cost.

Also, comedy answer: probably tunnels.

Two options

Keep the current ferries and just have higher R+M but avoid CAPEX

Or, buy 2 used ferries about the same capacity as the two ports wont change

They are the only options as I see it.

Couldn't find a Labour thread but looks like Robertson is set to step down as an MP.

Now confirmed. New Finance spokesperson for Labour is a former tax solicitor.

That's going to be interesting for Willis. I'm also interested in whether there is a marked shift in Labour policy as a result.

The Tax Cut Policy is giving tax cuts, July I think. That will happen. The other issue is funding, that won't happen, so to pay for it, other spending will need to be cut to make up for it

Policy, no idea, but capability is out the door. Labour has talent but not a lot of it, so same as National now, low on it

Waka Kotahi may have to replace all hi-vis and PPE gear with English name first:

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2024/02/christopher-luxon-says-he-doesn-t-care-what-is-on-the-freakin-ppe-after-waka-kotahi-bought-new-hi-viz-jackets-for-him.html

Waka Kotahi purchases unbranded gear for Luxon walkabout. That stuff has a good turnover. It could be allowed to age out instead of instant replacement imo if legislation allows for that or does not cover it.

Not until your government made it one, no.

Luxon needs to tell these tunnels to buck their ideas up and stop being so fragile.
