While I support your actions and would do the same if I were in that position; I wonder how the folks in the privacy & censorship camps would take this?

Normally I'd be concerned myself about the censorship, but this is a national emergency. I think the gist of the reasoning for locking down any livestreams and video upload sites, would be that others involved who may be at large, might intend to use them as an alternative communications channel, or as a timed trigger for other events with a video upload or comment,etc. This response by authorities will be intended to prevent further harm 100% and nothing else. This isn't America.

I do still have access to a few threads on 4chan as I had them open from earlier, that has allowed me to browse through the rest of the site.
Everyone is talking about how these knee jerk reactions are exactly what these guys want. They are quoting parts of the shooters manifesto which depict these reactions.

The event was not designed to just meaninglessly kill people but do exactly what is happening.

While I don't disagree with the intent What would have been nice is the following: 1. Official information saying that this was happening, and under what law it's even legal 2. List of what exactly is being blocked 3. Date for when the things on the list will be unblocked 4. Reasons why certain sites like twitter/facebook are able to stay unblocked yet host the material that is supposedly being targeted I tend to agree with the person below - knee jerk censorship and other reactions are exactly what these events are after

I couldn't care less about outrage about censorship when we have people trying to do their best in a crisis.

Once danger has passed then I'd expect a more fully thought through process.

As for 4chan, if I google it then /pol/ is at the top of the list, I had a quick look to see, and saw pretty much what I expected, ebullient scumbags boasting, praising motivation and technique. Someone asked if 4chan is evil. Facilitating terrorists is ok? Please explain.

On Voyager, LiveLeak is responding with a 503 error for me. 4chan is loading but it seems the domain it's image host is on has been blocked.

What an astoundingly unempathetic post. If you really think totally black and white concepts apply during a crisis then you are living in a parallel dimension.

Everyone is taking the best action they can at this time, based on the information available. It might be right or wrong but I have no doubt of their best intentions and as has been stated it's a temporary measure.

I'm sure the ghouls who are desperate to find footage will manage but I'm pretty comfortable with Spark, Vodafone et al doing this for a few hours/days.

Because these platforms have internal controls and systems to remove the content without having to block the whole site

The sites being blocked seemed to be unmoderated or not able to have selective content removed easily

The sites (if it's just the 3) being blocked are definitely moderated and have the ability to have things removed (especially regarding copyright) so it's a bit disingenuous to say that that is the reason. However I would concede they aren't moderated in the way that people want and that facebook etc are more responsive when asked to do stuff - I would bet anything no one even bothered to try contact the blocked sites about getting the stuff taken down (which they legally aren't obliged to anyway)

I expect the reason why facebook and twitter or all social media sites are exempt is because of the political backlash and panic that would ensue if such sites were blocked which unfortunately is exactly why they are used to stream and host the content - in addition to the wide reach

The video is the one piece of factual evidence that is available about the whole event - everything else is not - and there most likely won't be much until an investigation is finished. If someone wishes to view it then it should be their choice regardless of the content - no one is being forced to view it.

In anycase the blocking attempt has been executed poorly (since it barely even works) and probably hasn't prevented anyone who wanted to see it from doing so.
