Varkk:

But yes Genter has consistently been excellent around transport and urban planning areas. Swarbrick and Ghahraman would also be great in roles with more responsibility.

My impression of Genter is massively tainted by her total silence on the Light Rail fiasco while supposedly using her full ability to intervene in the Wellington terrace tunnel plans, depending on who you believe. Granted she has been a good advocate for walking and cycling but 'consistently excellent' is something I find hard to agree with as an Auckland commuter.

Twyford gone. Wood picks up transport. Sensible Light Rail may be back on the cards (here's hoping).

Woods still has housing, along with four other associated ministers. I would have thought a dedicated housing minister would be the place to start. Maybe it's not that important?

Roberton as Finance AND Infrastructure makes good sense, but Robertson as Deputy PM on top of that makes less. There's not really any other options, but it is a significant additional burden (although he was de facto Labour Deputy leader prior to this as well so who knows).

Mahuta as Foreign Affairs is a good appointment, Jackson comes into cabinet as well. Maori caucus should be happy.

Probably the cabinet Ardern needed to go into this election with as opposed to keeping dead wood around for longer than she had to and defending it during the campaign, but Covid and the economic response has made hitting the ground running critical. Overall, a pretty good divvy-up.

Interesting makeup of Cabinet.

One thing that stands out is the lack of anyone in the cabinet who is similar to JA.

Maori and Pacific Island people should be happy as they are now 40% of the cabinet. But that does also mean they have to deliver now.

The old union leadership still has a great say, but interesting in the makeup of the union-backed members.

I am just glad sense was seen and Twyford was kicked to the curb. Good choice to have Robertson at number 2 I would have thought that was a no brainer anyway but what do I know.
I like the make up of the rest of cabinet.

I honestly just want to believe that Auckland is capable of visual, strategic change over the course of a 30 year period that isn't building more motorways.

I get that, lets see what happens. Successive Governments have failed to do this, I just checked the Consoilidated Fund, I can now see the floor as most of the money is gone. What was a strategic choice, based on when someone eventually nails down what AKL will look like in 30 years, is now a funding issue. How close it will be to the top of the fund pile, I'm unsure

Credit where due: According to an item on RNZ, Judith Collins said this about the US election: "Whatever the result of the election, it's always best to accept that and do so with good grace. Just as it is when someone wins an election, to act in the best interests of their country, and to show good grace in that too.'

It makes me swell with pride that even our conservatives are so much more embiggened in spirit than their American counterparts. Go Aotearoa!

Unless it's 2017 then you complain for the next 3 years about how you "won" even when you couldn't form a government.

Who complained? The winner was whoever formed a Govt. I dont recall National complaining for three years that they won but couldn't form a Govt. They did then, story over.

But the point was that normally, normal people who lose are gracious in defeat.

Judith has tweeted her congrats to Biden and Harris. Clearly there are some of her followers who are MAGA plonkers because her replies are a national embarrassment, through no fault of her own.
