Wombat1:

Guardian Australia falsely suggests billionaire Elon Musk made nazi salutes at Trump event despite experts testifying otherwise | Sky News Australia

Several media outlets have been blasted for wrongly accusing billionaire Elon Musk of making Nazi salutes during the inauguration celebration of US President Donald Trump.

Whoa. They used a photo from a different moment. The photo shows him waving. The video is different.

They also posted a photo of Kamala Harris waving. Not even with the fingers together.

Talk about not being in good faith. But what to expect from that outfit.

Sky News Australia, one of the bigger Trump-supporting outlets in AU. Of course they would say Elon did nothing wrong - I watched part of an interview once where they fawned endlessly over the orange buffoon and said Biden was basically useless. So I would take their opinions with a grain (or sack) of salt.

A neutral source would be better.

Wombat1:

Sure would be, my argument is that he did no such thing.

But you would say that, wouldn't you? 🙄

Edit: did that Wombat guy deactivate his account? Oh well.

MaxineN: Shall not be repeating myself a second time, considering I laid it out in articles pointing out Twitter had a misinformation and abusive issue, gave hints to what absolutely cannot bring up in New Zealand and as well as other users in this thread pointing out he did a salute that only a Nazi would do.

I think you know if you agree. I've made my opening and closing argument.

How about you tell me with articles and sources how it's not?

You posted a link about Twitter needing to comply with EU regulations regarding misinformation and free speech. And another which claims Musk may have lied on his immigration forms 30yrs ago. I understand what you are referring to here in NZ, and would most definitely place that it in the hate-speech bucket - and should therefore be banned everywhere.

I just don't quite follow what I am saying that could be called "misinformation" (re. this comment from you earlier "Misinformation you're very engrossed in and I'm happy to call it out").

Wombat guy is a coward lol. Also seriously still on this? You still haven't proven how Elon isn't a nazi despite everyone giving you evidence to the contrary.

What a day. GZ is either fielding abhorrent thoughts or wanting to defend their favourite billionaire from the ire of common people.

Hell there are people who were in that neo-nazi camp that got out of that crap saying that that was 100% a nazi salute. But yes it's Musk's 'autism' that made him do it thrice.

The AfD has been condemned by several courts as ‘definitely right-wing extremist’.
When the richest fart in the world publicly calls the incumbent Federal Chancellor a ‘fool’, the incumbent head of state an ‘undemocratic tyrant’ and recommends that the citizens of a democratic country vote for the AfD ‘as the only way to prevent impending doom’, I need no further ‘evidence’ of his convictions. As a receipt, new registrations of Tesla EVs have since plummeted dramatically and stickers are being printed with apologies for Teslas so that they are not damaged.

Don't expect me to explain more to a Musk simp.

You do realise (both of you?) that endlessly defending Musk on here is not going to lead to him writing you a cheque, right?

Who's "they"? Anyone with eyes and a moral compass, and more than a passing knowledge of the holocaust?

The Holocaust is what this is all about. It is the reason people react to nazi wannabees with such utter revulsion. Yet there is hardly anyone left who experienced it. Children are not properly taught about it. The unfathomable horror of it has faded into history. People confuse modern Israeli politics with it. Everything conspires to make it seem less utterly evil than it truly was.

The problem with Musk's act is not what his intention was. It is what he did and how that affects people. Anyone trying to rationalise this is actually helping to blur the edges of what was done. It helps to normalise it so people no longer throw up when confronted by it. Any hint of nazi glorification needs to be stamped into the ground without mercy. There is no less bad side to this. Trying to argue that Musk didn't actually do what he did, or didn't mean it that way, or it really wasn't all that much of a big deal, just serves to legitimise it. It doesn't matter what his intention was. He did it. He didn't apologise for it. He is a nazi.

To clarify, yesterday, I banned Wombat1 and CrazyM.

Those users did not engage in good faith and brought flawed arguments to the thread. They do not deserve to be in this community.

Thanks for the clarification and taking that action - I don't think either of them (especially Wombat) added anything of value on here.

Being a white knight for any Nazi or anyone of that ilk is not something that should ever be celebrated/minimised/man-splained, and I can see that was probably coming up next.

It's been many pages since parties involved in this argument agreed to disagree, and that time would tell what/where the situation landed. I am not a mod and have no power here, but I really think we should draw a line over this particular topic, there doesn't appear to be much changing of minds occuring and mostly the same arguments are starting to repeat and things are getting heated.

It's a premise of the politics subforum that agreeing to disagree is part of membership, and whilst, I myself find it hard to do, I'd encourage, for the sake of cooling the temperature, we move on to other topics related to Mr Musk.

I apologise if I have overstepped my bounds.

SumnerBoy:

But I still stand by belief (or is that hope?) that Musk wasn't making a Nazi salute this morning. It was a huge mistake and misjudgement, but I do not think he is a Nazi supporter, for all his other obvious flaws.

James O'Brien sums it up perfectly within the first 30 seconds ...

ROFL at video: ""Elon Musk is a Nazi or he's stupid. And given we keep being told he's a genius, then he must be a Nazi""
