The Washington Post - Trump retreats from public view as government shutdown continues over border wall fight

December 28

President Trump remained out of public view Friday as the partial government shutdown reached the one-week mark, content to issue threats via Twitter amid a continuing standoff with Democrats over border wall funding. ...

There [is] an emerging consensus that there would be no deal before Democrats take control of the House on Wednesday ...

Shutting down the border will really help... /s

Big Orange Moron: The United States looses soooo much money on Trade with Mexico under NAFTA, over 75 Billion Dollars a year (not including Drug Money which would be many times that amount), that I would consider closing the Southern Border a “profit making operation.” We build a Wall or.....

What a baby.

Anyone know how many US government workers are temporarily unemployed?

Do they qualify for an unemployment benefit?

Maybe the Dems - next week - could organize a special fund for the purpose. Brownie points?

BarTender: I just have to reply on this page as it's page 666 ;)

What an amazing coincidence: It's the same number that's tattooed on Trump's scalp.

geekIT:

Anyone know how many US government workers are temporarily unemployed?

From The Guardian:

Meanwhile, now working without pay are thousands of air traffic controllers and aviation and railroad safety inspectors, nearly 54,000 Customs and Border Protection agents, 42,000 coast guard employees, 53,000 TSA agents, 17,000 correctional officers, 14,000 FBI agents, 4,000 Drug Enforcement Administration agents, and some 5,000 firefighters with the US Forest Service.

Ironic isn't it? Nearly 54,000 Customs and Border Protection agents, 42,000 Coast Guard employees and 4,000 DEA agents. Wonder what this will do to benefit the drug and gun runners across the border. Can we say Trump is helping crime go up?

Trump has turned words into weapons.

The Guardian, 13 June 2018

Trump’s tweets are not random, they are strategic.

There are four types:

  1. Pre-emptive framing, to get a framing advantage.
  2. Diversion, to divert attention when news could embarrass him.
  3. Deflection: Shift the blame to others. And
  4. Trial balloon: test how much you can get away with.

The Trump file: Trump's 10 top falsehoods of 2018

  1. A "horrible law" requires that children be separated from their parents "once they cross the Border into the U.S."
  2. Democrats let cop killer Luis Bracamontes "into our country," and "Democrats let him stay."
  3. "The Democrats want to invite caravan after caravan of illegal aliens into our country. And they want to sign them up for free health care, free welfare, free education, and for the right to vote."
  4. Says 3,000 people "did not die" in two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico.
  5. People "went out in their boats to watch" Hurricane Harvey.
  6. "California wildfires are being magnified & made so much worse by the bad environmental laws which aren’t allowing massive amounts of readily available water to be properly utilized. It is being diverted into the Pacific Ocean."
  7. "In many places, like California, the same person votes many times. You probably heard about that. They always like to say 'oh that's a conspiracy theory.' Not a conspiracy theory, folks. Millions and millions of people."
  8. The ice caps were going to melt, they were going to be gone by now, but now they’re setting records, so okay, they’re at a record level."
  9. "U.S. Steel just announced that they are building six new steel mills."
  10. Saudi Arabia has ordered $450 billion from the United States, "$110 billion of which is a military order," producing "over a million jobs."

Read the article for details.

The Washington Post - A year of unprecedented deception: Trump averaged 15 false claims a day in 2018

30 December 2018

President Trump’s year of lies, false statements and misleading claims started with some morning tweets.

The fusillade of tweets was the start of a year of unprecedented deception during which Trump became increasingly unmoored from the truth.

When 2018 began, the president had made 1,989 false and misleading claims, according to The Fact Checker’s database, which tracks every suspect statement uttered by the president.

By the end of the year, Trump had accumulated more than 7,600 untruths during his presidency, averaging more than 15 erroneous claims a day during 2018, almost triple the rate from the year before.
