This terrorist is complaining. Christchurch mosque attack terrorist seeking judicial review of his prison conditions - NZ Herald

Christchurch mosque shooter [terrorist name removed] has applied to the High Court for a judicial review of his prison conditions.

His application solely relates to aspects of his detention and will have no bearing on his conviction or sentence.

The terrorist is held in the Prisoners of Extreme Risk Unit, a highly secure facility within Auckland Prison at Paremoremo housing the country’s most dangerous offenders.

It remains unclear at this stage exactly what aspects of his prison conditions he is seeking a judicial review of.

The terrorist participated in a telephone conference on Thursday morning with Justice Geoffrey Venning of the Auckland High Court, along with a Crown lawyer.

The Herald was granted permission to listen to the preliminary case management conference, which dealt with administrative matters, but is unable to report what was said.

A spokeswoman for the Office of the Chief Justice confirmed the case management conference related to a judicial review of decisions made by the Department of Corrections about aspects of his prison conditions.

The terrorist is finally starting to realise what a life sentence means. He is not a hero of the rabid right. He is being forgotten. He is getting bored. The only distraction available to him is filing legal proceedings against the terms of his imprisonment. This enables him to talk to some lawyers. He gets a small break from his dreary life-long routine. It is what they all go through, just like the loser in Norway. I wish him a long, dull, pointless, endlessly drawn out existence. May he rot in hell long before he actually expires! No one cares about you, shithead!

What happened to the gentlemen's agreement not to mention his name, to deprive him of the recognition? I see the Herald has forgotten the whole point of that gesture.

It's not a new thing. Since the beginning some media chose to do that and some did not.

And almost six years later, this terrorist who shall not be named, wants another day in court.

[Terrorist] tries to convince a panel of New Zealand’s most senior judges that he pleaded guilty to murder, attempted murder and terrorism “under duress by torture”.

[Terrorist] is expected to give evidence at a five-day Court of Appeal hearing in Wellington in an attempt to overturn his convictions and life sentence.

Yes... This last article names the terrorist. Obviously the editor has no problems with naming this piece of crap.

My recollection is his sister had some influence to persuade him that pleading guilty was about the only right thing he had an opportunity to do at that point. Presumably the appellant will now argue that was an entirely uncharacteristic moment and it didn't last very long. I think that will fail.

His name was also all over TVNZ News at Six. I don't know if RNZ used it.

I half-wish the NZ media wouldn't report on him at all.  I understand it's important for the justice system to operate transparently, and there is a general public interest in the reporting of prominent cases, and that heinous individual is surely New Zealand's most prominent criminal.  But ... all that said, in his case I'd support him never being talked to more than absolutely necessary or publicly commented on and living a very long time, in a lonely cell.

In the fictional sentiment of Leonides, may he live forever (in prison alone).

7th anniversary and it feels like yesterday to me. The impact on the victims and those connected to them must be enormous.

If there was sufficient political will, something could be found that would satisfy requirements of law and open justice. For example, ban all public reporting on the person and his deeds, but make it available on request. Anyone could follow all hearings and associated activities by visiting a web site but they wouldn't be sprayed all over the evening news. This terrible individual wants notoriety. That should be denied him as much as possible. Let him live out a long, extremely boring life.
