Sadly, I think that we're going to see a lot more of this over the next 3 years.

Having said that, I do think one of their proposals - moving to a 4 year parliamentary term - is a good idea.

Nope, I am sticking with 3 year terms thank you very much.
I vote left-ish but I don't want Labour/Left wing to run unchecked for 4 years, let alone have a possible right wing socially and religiously conservative goverment.
Side note, there are some crazies on my left side of the aisle too.

You say three years is too short to get much done, sure! However it slices both ways, a lot of harm can be done given time.
So nope, I like my 3 year check votes, its the only power I have to have a voice in how I would like the country to grow into the future.

Well if it goes to a referendum - which I think it has to? - make sure you have your say. I'll be voting for 4.

NZ is one of the few countries in the world to have a 3 year term:

Fair, I can shake on that.

I sorta agree. I dont agree that a lot of harm can get done by any Government. They do things that they got voted in on, and later on, following that left/right trend. Or things they got voted in on, dont get dome or finished, that's not abnormal. 3 years is a tad short but thats easily fixed if they are doing a good/sound/acceptable job, they will get another term = sorted

Oh there is totally merit to 4 year terms and you have a point....

I just don't trust any goverment for 4 years.
3 years is a good point to see if they have started to get the ball rolling, 6 years is a good check to confirm the ball is now moving and 9 years is how far has that ball moved.
Vs 4 years, oh yeah think the ball is going to be sucessful, 8 years, oh god we are heading to brexit with the South Island.

If my GP makes me do a phone interview for my anti-anxiety meds every 3 months and,
the rental agency does rental inspections every 3 months.
I am I will totally vote for our regular 3 year check in for whatever goverment.

I may have trust issues tho.

freitasm: It is automatic. I had that earlier this year with all the meds I had with my health problem. One day stopped at pharmacy and it was free because it was over the threshold.

That part I understand per individual. I'm wondering how it will be done on a maximum $100 per family basis?

The same way it was previously done.

You simply tell the pharmacist to combine scripts for the purposes of keep track for the family, and then they need to have the same residential address .

It was very easy to do. We even transferred pharmacies with zero problems.

And even back then there were some pharmacies that did not charge the $5.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/301016371/live-nz-on-air-board-member-resigns-after-calling-winston-peters-malicious

He should resign for obvious reasons. Calling Peters a thug? He is. Peters could man up and apologise for being over energetic in his criticism of the media. Arguably, Peters would seem to prefer a pro Peters media.

IMO I feel that Luxon is weak. Weak as to be honest. His business background means nothing. JK's business background meant a lot less but he had the wherewithall to transfer from private business to public life. Totally different ball game.

But, I feel for Luxon, he will grow into it, but he has to deal with Seymour, thats ok as Dave is smart. He has to deal with Peters who IMHO is losing it. Media is a public right to keep us informed. If you screw up the media will go after you = accountability. Own it. I dont envy Luxon who "could" make a go of it despite his many flaws, he will learn, but managing Peters is a step too far. IMO he feels that his (Peters) persona exceeds his public profile, which 5 million of us rely on him. I can see a spat before long.

The Red Dwarf image is quite clever (and fitting) 😃

Its not silly. The campaign was a vote catching, degrading campaign, but hey, it works. Covid Govts all failed, easy. Then I felt that after all the hoopla, campaign slogans repeated ad Infinitum, we will merge to a new Government, all go quiet as its done and dusted. Always stuff to brickbat and bouquet, but in general it just moves on. Left people bitch, right people defend. BAU. But it seems that its very divisive still. Smokefree, Oil and gas, Climate Change.it never stops. Waiting for gang  patches to be banned. I got out of National 2017 due to sitting on their hands, doing nothing, crow about the surplus (from doing nothing) Bill was asked about waterways, oh we will put sensors there, asked about housing affordability, not one word, just smiled. GRRRR But I'd settle for that now. Or ideally Peters is out, Im fine to see what NAT/ACT can do.

Agreed. I'm more scared of governments that can't get anything done getting more time than governments who might do too much. An extra year wasn't going to turn the last Labour government into a competent outfit that could actually deliver policy or infrastructure and I feel that it's kind of disingenuous to suggest it would have made them any more effective. They were just garbage in the end, hence they lost an election. And if this one is garbage then they'll be gone in short order too.

Garbage wise, it all depends how you assess the Covid effect and the Ukraine effect. Tough times. AFAIK all Covid Govts are gone. Does that suggest that if the Oppositions then were in power it would be sweet? No, same deal. Inflation isnt Labours fault and it wont be National's when they don't fix it. Based on how all global govts supported Covid. Exarcerbated by Ukraine, as fuel and fertiliser affects everything. But Luxon says he will fix inflation as the other lot caused it, so lets see.
