Sam Uffindell to return to National's caucus.

Well, they had an investigation, independently. Some parties could learn a thing or two...

If this was a Labour caucus member, and the incident was 15+ years ago, I'd support their return to active service too. People make mistakes, they shouldn't define them if they have genuinely turned their lives around, otherwise we may as well execute anyone who makes a mistake.

Should have banished him and run a by-election without a National candidate IMO. Could have given ACT a non-Epsom foothold.

Instead they'll have to face questions about this until the election and their momentum is gone.

You keep going on about how fair-minded you are, then you keep going on about how Labour doesn't do what it said it would. Not criticising, just commenting.

Huh?

What is fair about promising 100K houses and delivering basically none? What is fair about promising a Billion trees and planting less than 10K? What is fair about promising to be open and transparent and then refusing to open an enquiry into arguably the most significant event financially and generally, in NZ's history?

Huh indeed. You misinterpreted my point. Saying you would also have given a Labour candidate a second chance doesn't mean much when you spend the rest of your time banging on about all the perceived failures of the government. You have made your point, again and again and again. Move on.

Gotta give credit to National's PR department, releasing this on the day of the Queen's funeral. Bound to get buried under the other news stories of the day.

Yes, they received it late last week, had time to examine it and make a decision then had Uffindel represent them at an event over the weekend so had obviously welcomed him back in to the caucus by that stage. Only made it public on the day it will be lost in other news. They are also not releasing the Terms of Reference so we can know what the investigation actually looked at, or an executive summary which is commonly done in previous situations like this. All we have is what Luxon and Uffindel have told us the report said.

I assume you two were equally offended by Labour announcing they were moving Andrew Kirton, *widely* criticized for his disgraceful handling of the Labour camp sex scandal (for which the report was never made public AFAIK), into a cushy job with a Government owned entity, the same afternoon Jacinda Arden went into labour. It's a play right out of Helen Clarks playbook.

It's back to the people of Tauranga to make that decision either way at the next election. Some time ago I saw some comment in a stuff article along the lines of "give the kid another chance". I must admit when I first saw Uffindell's picture I assumed he was about 22. In fact he's 39. I think his handling of the issue this year leaves a bit to be desired. Personally I'd be uncomfortable voting for him. I'm not in Tauranga electorate so it's not my decision.

The thing is, he has behaved badly in the past. Surely there must be other eminently qualified people who have not behaved badly in the past. He says he has learned his lesson and that is to his credit. But what about someone who didn't need to learn that lesson because they already knew what was right? It just feels a little like thanking a thief for not breaking into your home.
