Yay! Good news indeed. I guess his crying on-air didn't generate enough "donations" to keep his conspiracy theory "empire" running 😀

We are cursed to live in interesting times.

Southern Baptist Convention had some interesting resolutions again.

A conservative mid-west Baptist church was kicked out only because it had one female pastor female, among five males. She was already restricted to preaching only to women and children, and as is the norm, the church's leadership was still all-male.

Also they had quite a bit to say in this non-binding resolution on In Vitro Fertilization. Typically used by infertile couples, an egg and sperm are allowed to merge outside the womb.

The sperm is 20 times smaller than the diameter of a typical human hair strand. The egg roughly the thickness of a strand of hair, about four times the size of a skin cell.

So calling unfertilized frozen cells either a "human being" is a stretch.

And how exactly do you adopt individual sperm cells? I'd guess naming each sperm for adoption would be a pain. In 2023 US alone, parents chose nearly 29,000 distinct names for their children. So naming over 50 times that for each cell many would be tough! Of course not naming your adopted cell would be disrespectful to God's gift, in my opinion. :)

"WHEREAS, In Vitro Fertilization most often participates in the destruction of embryonic human life and increasingly engages in dehumanizing methods for determining suitability for life and genetic sorting, based on notions of genetic fitness and parental preferences; and

WHEREAS, Estimates suggest that between 1 million and 1.5 million human beings are currently stored in cryogenic freezers in an embryonic state throughout the United States, with most unquestionably destined for eventual destruction; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 11-12, 2024, call on Southern Baptists to reaffirm the unconditional value and right to life of every human being, including those in an embryonic stage, and to only utilize reproductive technologies consistent with that affirmation especially in the number of embryos generated in the IVF process; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we affirm all children, no matter the circumstances of their conception, are gifts from God and loved by him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we call on Southern Baptists to love all of their neighbors in accordance with their God-given dignity as image bearers and to advocate for the government to restrain actions inconsistent with the dignity and value of every human being, which necessarily includes frozen embryonic human beings; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage Southern Baptists to continue to promote adoption as one way God may call upon couples to grow their families and to consider adopting frozen embryos in order to rescue those who are eventually to be destroyed"

Fix The Court - A Staggering Tally: Supreme Court Justices Accepted Hundreds of Gifts Worth Millions of Dollars

June 6, 2024

Fix the Court today is unveiling a list of the gifts the justices have received over the years, and the numbers are staggering: in the last two decades (Jan. 2004-Dec. 2023), the justices have accepted 344 gifts valued at $2,993,036.

If one includes another 101 gifts that Justice Thomas likely received over those 20 years - mostly comprising free trips to and free stays at Bohemian Grove and Topridge worth $1,787,684 - that number jumps to 445 gifts valued at $4,780,720. ...

The Louisiana Illuminator - Gov. Jeff Landry, in dispute with ethics board, signs law giving himself more control over it

17 June 2024

Gov. Jeff Landry has signed a new law to give him control over the Louisiana Board of Ethics, even as a dispute between him and board members continues.

The ethics board charged Landry last year with failing to disclose flights he took to and from Hawaii on a political donor’s private plane while Landry was attorney general.

Landry and the board are still in negotiations about what an appropriate punishment for his violation should be, with the next status conference in his case scheduled for July 5.

A few weeks after that meeting however, a new ethics board statute will take effect ... Under the new law, Landry and future governors will be able to appoint the majority of the members of the board directly, with far less input from outside sources.

Transparency advocates described the board changes as very troubling.

When Trump and his religion advisers launch new national faith advisory board, Trump said “a lot of things have happened with respect to faith and religion, and they’re not good things.” He then bragged “One of my greatest honors was fighting for religious liberty and for defending the Judeo-Christian values and principles of our nation’s founding.”

The foundation for the separation of church and state in the United States lies in the First Amendment to the Constitution. This amendment, ratified in 1791, ensures religious freedom by prohibiting Congress from making laws respecting the establishment of religion or interfering with the free exercise thereof.

Founding father Thomas Jefferson, the third U.S. president, famously referred to this principle as creating a “wall of separation” between church and state. The Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause together safeguard against government support of religious practices and favoritism toward any particular religion.

The Guardian: Pastor and ex-Trump adviser resigns after admitting to child sexual abuse

A Texas megachurch said on Tuesday it had accepted the resignation of its senior pastor after he admitted to sexually abusing a child in the 1980s.

The church has also launched a formal, legal investigation into the matter.

Robert Morris, a founding pastor of Dallas-based Gateway church and one of Donald Trump’s former spiritual advisers, admitted to religious publication the Christian Post on Saturday that he had been involved in “inappropriate sexual behavior” with a girl he inaccurately referred to as “a young lady” for several years, between 1982 and 1987, starting when she was 12.

Poor little Clarence shows how woefully out of touch he is with his Supreme Court colleagues 🙄

I thought this idiot ex-lawyer had learned to shut her mouth about election fraud lies, I guess not 🙄 from memory the Supreme Court didn't even look at Trump's election fraud suit as it had no merit whatsoever.

Maybe Powell is a bit like Liz Gunn and desperate for attention.

Wow, really shows this religious group's priorities.

RNZ: Jehovah's Witnesses lose court fight to obtain abuse inquiry report before victims

Jehovah's Witnesses have tried - and failed - to get an advance copy of the Abuse in Care Inquiry's final report into their church.

The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses Australasia (CCJWA) filed an urgent claim in the High Court in Auckland on 21 June to obtain a copy of the final case study relating to the religious denomination in the inquiry's report, but the claim was dismissed.

It also unsuccessfully sought all relevant underlying documents supporting the case study.

In a separate case, the Jehovah's Witnesses also filed for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court after the Court of Appeal dismissed an earlier bid to avoid the scrutiny of the inquiry altogether.

RNZ understands the CCJWA received and commented on a draft copy of the case study in May, but has yet to see a final draft.

If its High Court claim had been successful, it could have led to the church receiving a copy before the government or abuse survivors had read the report.

Bit off-topic sorry as it's not political (but then, neither is the post above this one)  but certainly up there on the deplorable scale.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

What a surprise! Voters in Arizona just don't like election-denying MAGA favourite Kari Lake! Seriously, I hope that her bombastic big mouth continues to do her no favours 😀
