I heard someone coin the phrase "meta-criminal", as in "self-referential criminal."

Trump announces he's about to commit a crime, then does it.

Trump’s Call for Russian Hacking Makes Even Less Sense After Mueller

Many Americans have become numb to the president’s rhetoric. But his infamous plea to the Kremlin is still inexplicable.

For the first year of his presidential campaign, Donald Trump was a devoted exponent of the press conference. He seemed to revel in the format: the jousts with reporters, the free-associative possibilities, the chance to shock. But almost 1,000 days ago, Trump’s press conferences reached their apogee.

Speaking in Miami on July 27, 2016, Trump gave the final and weirdest press conference of his campaign. Calling the spectacle “bizarre even by Trump’s standards”—how naive I was!—I wrote, “Just when it starts to seem that Donald Trump can’t surprise the jaded American media anymore, the Republican nominee manages to go just a little bit further.” There was much to chew over (and spit out) in Trump’s comments that day, but the most enduring moment came when the Republican nominee answered a question about Kremlin interference in the election. Trump looked to the cameras and gave one of the more stunning remarks of his campaign.

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” he said, referring to the Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s deleted messages. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

The New York Times - The Census: Another Brick in Trump’s White House Wall

The president is using executive privilege to conceal information the public needs to know.

By The Editorial Board

The editorial board represents the opinions of the board, its editor and the publisher. It is separate from the newsroom and the Op-Ed section.

June 12, 2019

Wednesday brought yet another demonstration of the Trump administration’s indifference to the constitutional system of checks and balances.

The president asserted executive privilege over all documents requested by the House Oversight and Reform Committee in its investigation of his administration’s decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.

The battle over the integrity of the census has been fiery, with good reason.

The addition of the question could result in a major undercount of residents in Hispanic and immigrant-heavy areas, skewing the electoral map in favor of Republicans. ...

The legal fight to block the new census question now sits before the Supreme Court, and early signs are that it will overturn the decision of the lower courts and rule in the administration’s favor. ...

I'm not sure how I feel about this Trump stress reliever at a Chinese tech show.

In the same venue, forget about a a President Xi Jinping stress reliever, you'd be arrested for having a Winnie the Pooh toy with Xi's name or face.

In fact, the resemblance is quite striking.

The Guardian - Spouting off: Trump boasts of meeting 'Prince of Whales'

Another Twitter typo from the US president sparks widespread mockery ...

(Note his thoughtful parentheses teaching us that the Queen of England is from the U.K.)

Users with a long history of Twitter could not help but recall how appropriate the gaffe was, given that Twitter's original emblem of service failure used to be known as the "fail whale".

The Washington Post - Sarah Sanders leaving White House at the end of the month

June 13 at 4:43 PM

Sarah Sanders, the combative White House press secretary whose tenure was marked by controversy and questions about her credibility, resigned Thursday after 22 months on the job. ...

During her rocky stint as the president’s official spokeswoman, Sanders, 36, endeared herself to her boss and to his supporters by her staunch defense of him and his remarks.

She often amplified Trump’s criticism of the news media, pushing back on reporters’ questions, sometimes sarcastically.

Sanders made her devotion to the president plain in January when she told an interviewer for the Christian TV network CBN that “God wanted Donald Trump to become president.

But her truthfulness and integrity were called into serious question by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s nearly two-year investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Mueller’s report found that Sanders lied when she told reporters on two occasions in May 2017 that rank-and-file members of the FBI supported Trump’s firing of FBI director James B. Comey.

Sanders said her comments were “a slip of the tongue” and made in “the heat of the moment” - effectively lies about the lies.

Sanders’s time as press secretary was notable for what she didn’t do as much as for what she did.

Under her watch, her principal function as press secretary - representing the White House in media briefings - all but ceased to exist.

The White House set a record in January for the longest stretch in modern history without a news briefing, 41 days. ...

It then set a record, 42 days, in March, followed by a third streak, reaching 94 days Thursday.

... and another one bites the dust ....

She doesn't need an honest job. She is going to be governor of Arkansas.

She's a truly loathsome individual.

And any future employer (including any electorate) should remember - if she is prepared to lie for her employer she's also prepared to lie to them.

I think Hitler had a Minister for Propaganda. Damned little difference between that job and White house press secretary.
