The New York Post - Trump vows the US will cure cancer, eradicate AIDS at reelection rally

June 18, 2019  11:44pm

President Trump vowed to push America into new “medical frontiers” at a campaign rally on Tuesday evening, saying the US will eradicate AIDS and cure cancer.

Trump made the proclamation at his 2020 reelection campaign kickoff in Orlando, Florida.

We will push onward with new medical frontiers,” Trump said at the rally.

We will come up with the cures to many, many problems, to many, many diseases, including cancer and others. And we’re getting closer all the time,” he added.

We will eradicate AIDS in America once and for all and we’re very close.”

Immediately after Trump suggested the US would eradicate AIDS and cure cancer, he added that the US would “lay the foundation for landing American astronauts on the surface of Mars.

I wonder if he can walk on water ...  😶

I think the approximate 1 in 4 Americans with pre-existing conditions would just like medical care.

Ironically traditional republican states, like in the deep South, are most affected because of diabetes and obesity.

The New York Times - Senate Votes to Block Trump’s Arms Sales to Gulf Nations in Bipartisan Rebuke

June 20, 2019

WASHINGTON — The Senate voted to block the sale of billions of dollars of munitions to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, in a sharp and bipartisan rebuke of the Trump administration’s attempt to circumvent Congress to allow the exports by declaring an emergency over Iran.

In three back-to-back votes, Republicans joined Democrats to register their growing anger with the administration’s use of emergency power to cut lawmakers out of national security decisions, as well as the White House’s unflagging support for the Saudis despite congressional pressure to punish Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman after the killing in October of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi. ...

Mr. Trump has pledged to veto the legislation, and it is unlikely that either chamber could muster enough support to override the president’s veto.

Seven Republicans - not nearly enough to override a veto - broke from their party to disapprove of the sales to Saudi Arabia ...

The Washington Post - This is what happens when you have an unfit commander in chief

June 20 at 2:24 PM

The Senate repudiating a president of the majority party on a matter of national security would be unusual under any circumstances.

That it comes at a time when tensions with a major international foe are boiling over is nothing short of astonishing, a sign of how far President Trump has fallen as commander in chief even among Republicans. ...

The president once more has gone to the well claiming “emergency” powers as a way to do an end run around Congress.

The only emergency we have, however, is an utterly unfit commander in chief who has earned no deference from Congress, no trust from allies and no respect from foes. ...

EDIT

kingdragonfly: It's a cliche that defense lawyers signal their testifying clients they are giving a bad answer by coughing. It's so common that judges will warn defense lawyers about signaling when one coughs.

So chief of staff Mick Mulvaney may have been signaling to Trump "hey, shut up about possibly releasing your tax returns." Naturally Trump is too thick to get the clue. ...

Trump campaign brags Mexico is paying for an imaginary wall — while Americans are stuck with the very real tab

By Matthew Chapman

On Thursday’s edition of MSNBC’s “The Beat,” Ari Melber confronted Marc Lotter, a campaign official with President Donald Trump’s 2020 efforts, on his broken promise to make Mexico pay for the wall. Lotter’s response was to insist that Mexico was, in fact, paying for a wall — sort of.

...
Lotter: “Right now, Mexico is doing more to secure our border than the United States Congress and led by Democrats in the House of Representatives.”

“They’re not paying for the wall,” said Melber.

“They are paying for it, by sending 6,000 troops to protect the border to protect their southern border,” replied Lotter.

“Them sending their military places is not them paying for the wall,” said Melber. “Donald Trump promised Americans that, particularly those MAGA supporters, you’re not going to have to pay for the wall, he’s making the pay for the wall. Is your closing argument on that, it’s okay, it’s a broken promise, he didn’t fulfill everything, or is your closing argument on that a boldfaced lie, claiming Mexico is paying for the wall which you know is false?”

“The wall is being built. 400 miles of it will be done next year,” said Lotter. “When you look at the amount of money Mexico is paying to keep asylum seekers on their side of the border rather than the U.S. border, they’re providing them education, they’re providing health care, they’re sending their troops down to their southern border, and they are patrolling their transit lines up to the north to try to stop these caravans. Mexico is paying a lot for our southern security.”

“But not the wall,” said Melber.

“I would call it a virtual wall,” said Lotter.

Contagious - Kushner has them.

Based on past form, without having any hard evidence, the US military is itching for a showdown.

Trump: "I was going to shoot, but I'd have killed the whole gang" is rubbish. He'll have been restrained by either someone reminding him "but what would Putin say" or news that maybe the drone wasn't entirely in international airspace, or most probably the entire event was set up to harden US anti-Iran sentiment - for a full-scale attack some time in the next year.

Gulf of Tonkin, Saddam's WMD, same old same old. From what I've read the vast majority of US citizens consider Iran to be a serious threat. Despite the lessons of the past, they'll fall in behind their commander in chief.

Trump can't really lose on this, war or no war. Most Americans have been propagandised to believe that killing "bad Arabs" is their right.

From this week's "Real time with Bill Maher's" monologue.

So Trump says he ready to start a war with Iran. He tweets out "We're cocked and loaded, "which is not a thing.

It's "locked and loaded."

"Cocked and loaded", we looked it up, is the name of a gay porn movie.

I'm not making this up, with the subtitle: "a gang bang daddy f***"

Which is a pretty good summary of the last 2 and half years.
