I am a floating voter, not tied to any party or ideology. In spite of this, I can usually decide where to place my party vote by the time an election arrives. But this time I have no idea. I know who will receive my electorate vote. That is an easy choice. But I may have to leave the other box empty. I truly have no idea.

So who should I vote for? I am open to all suggestions. I will honestly strive to seriously consider any serious proposal, whether from the right or left. Tell me which party will make best use of my vote, and why. If this thread goes anywhere I will announce my decision before the election, also with my reason.

I do not want to start a political debate. There are plenty of other places for that. I am not asking to be told why a particular political choice is a bad idea. Instead, I am hoping to hear what people think is good about different parties. Let’s try to keep it positive. There are reasons why people vote the way they do, and I’m sure some of them are good. That is what I would like to hear.

I do not know who to vote for either. If my family had influence on me it would be National but I dont have any reasons to vote for them.
If people here can give a rundown on who they may support and the positive ideas they support, it would help me place my vote. I have not been keeping up to date with any policies or have had any interest in their campaigns. Maybe I just shouldn't vote.

As @Rikkitic said no debate and dont question another users opinion unless they have stated something incorrect that needs amending.

This could be interesting! :-)

I'm in the same boat. None of the parties are standing out to me with strong policies or leadership at this point so I'm keen to hear what people have to say.

The first question it presented me. I don't know how this will assist my vote..

Edit: Its asking me about Abortion, LGBT rights, death penalty, requirement to have women on board of directors. This quiz is designed for NZ Herald readers, Not us.

Same. I find National ineffective. the credit taken for EV blew me away, but I guess thats all politicians. As NZ is so affected by the globe, any Govt will be good, ok or average, as their impact is minor compared to what the Globe deals to us

So, I may look at what any party will DO in and for NZ, especially eco-wise

I DO NOT want to hear "we will grow jobs and improve the economy, and so on. I can say those things as can the kids next door. I dont want empty promises, slogans, I want hard core this is what and how we will attack this problem. I'm all for EV, solar, wind, and clean up the extremely non green NZ. The day to day stuff doesn't really change much here

I think they ask party members to fill this quiz as well so based on their answers and your answer they can better align you with a specific party?

I think they ask party members to fill this quiz as well so based on their answers and your answer they can better align you with a specific party?

Its all trivial trash that will never be brought up. I want to be seeing economic polices, immigration stances, environmental policies etc. Real world things that affect us.

I suggest you eliminate the parties that you do NOT want to vote for and see what's left. Then the choice(s) left might be clearer/easier.

In my electorate, candidates from both major parties are high enough on their respective lists so that both will remain as MPs. At least that makes voting a bit easier - only my party vote really matters. As for my electorate vote, it's mainly a choice deciding who the nuttiest craziest candidate is - and throwing a vote their way, if for nothing but to reward them for participation in the democratic process.

I absolutely know who I am voting for. But I believe is best, is not necessarily the same as what you will think.

I cannot tell you who to vote for. You need to make that decision yourself.

I am finding the Party vote easy this year, it is the electorate vote that has me beat, I really don't like any of the candidates.

I thought about that but then you just fall into the same old patterns. The whole debate about fake news is also about screening out everything you don't agree with and only living in an echo chamber. I cannot imagine I would ever vote National, but maybe that is just prejudice. There must be good reasons why many people do vote National. So in fairness I feel I should at least listen to them. Maybe at the least I can then make a more informed decision.

I'm a Labour or Green leaning voter, however The Opportunities Party's policies would seem to fit with me at the moment. I think they have a chance to reach 5%..

I have no trouble to be honest other than the fact that it is still IMO a 2 horse race. The small parties have no real or useful effect and could be done away with without great loss. I'd never vote for them as I would regard it as a waste that risked letting in the side I did not want to be in charge.

I will just vote National again. They have done a pretty good job over the last three terms IMO. I will also be voting for them just for stability.

A vote IMO for any other party just puts Winston and/or Metiria Turei into a high end government position.
