I like this story because it's an Australian microcosm.

An anarchist, DJ and barista, named Astro 'Funknukl' Labe, head butted former PM Tony Abbott. Astro was not arrested.

It was widely reported by Tony Abbott that it was because Astro was a same-sex marriage supporter, because he had a "vote yes" sticker

In various interviews, Astro said he was very drunk, and a friend had put the sticker on him.

"[It] was just a lifelong ambition to headbutt a fascist because I'm a skinhead that likes ska music and hates fascism. He's an evil c---, I'm an anarchist and I believe in human rights."

Asked if he'd do it again by reporters, in front of a pub the next day, and he said yes.

When Astro was later charged with common assault, and sober, he went on to explain.

"I must state in no uncertain terms that this has nothing whatsoever to do with marriage equality"

He wrapped up with this Aussie apology: "For all intents and purposes legally I'm remorseful."

He's Taswegian - not sure if that accounts for anything in particular, but that's a horrible photo.

True.

The whole Aussie "debate" on marriage equality also makes me shudder.

Speaking of former Australia’s PM Tony Abbott

"Tony Abbott says defence powers should be used to force states to approve mining projects"

"He's suggested Canberra should use the Army as a means to control Australia’s resources, and force states to increase gas exploration and supply."

It hasn't really had any effect on me, since I am not terribly interested...!

I think the bizarre "no" argument is that even if you're disinterested - it's somehow going to affect you negatively.

Hey - your link directed me back to this thread.

Most Australian politicians make me feel very glad to be in NZ.

Bloody brilliant.

Suppositories are hugely overrated - may as well shove them up your %&se - for all the good they'll do you.
